Twin brother for Alex

Hello everyone, I'm pregnant with mo/di twin boys. I already started thinking about baby names. I've fallen in love with the name Alex, just that not Alexander and husband is on board. However we struggle to find another name that we like as much. I love Felix, but I'm not sure about Alex and Felix. Isn't it too matchy? Husband just thinks of cats when I mention Felix lol. Another option is Alex and Luca, which I think flows quite well. The last name we came up with is Ben. However I've always liked Benjamin more, and shortening it to Ben just because Alex is a short name feels wrong. What do you think about these combos? I'm still searching for simple boy names with european feel and would love to hear your suggestions. Thank you. 🙂

Hamish and Alex(ander)

Change it to Name and Alex. Twin will otherwise always be below Alex in a list.
Put Alexander on the BC, even if you will only ever call him Alex.

Luca seems too trendy to go with Alex. Not keen on it
Alistair and Alex is the equivalent of Luke and Lucas.

I'd go with Ben and Alex. Both nice names

Alex and Luca is a lovely set of names for twin boys. That gets my vote

A few other ideas

Alex and Sam
Alex and Ezra
Alex and Liam
Alex and Rowan
Alex and Leo

I would go for Alexander and Benjamin even if you always call him Alex. I know a teenage Alex and he hates the fact he hasn't got the long version of the name. Hates that it's a unisex name. He's the reason I would always recommend that people put the full version of a name on a birth certificate. Even if it's never used I think it gives the person more options.

Yes, this! I've got the short version of a more formal name and I get so sick of explaining no its just X.

@twins23 thanks.

twins23 · 06/03/2023 08:39

@Yesthatismychildsigh mo/di means that the babies are identical twins who share the same chorion sac but have separate amnions sac while in the womb. Basically they're only sharing the internal sac.

@ODFOx funny you mentioned Dominic. It's my husband's name just spelled Dominik.

Luke and Alex sounds lovely together🥰

Yesthatismychildsigh · 05/03/2023 23:39

What does mo/di mean?
Alex and Edward.

I don't like Rene. Is that pronounced 'reen' or René (Renay). I think it's a bit girly in English.

Alex is good - simple, classic
I know it's another 'x' but I think Max sounds good with Alex.

ODFOx · 05/03/2023 23:02

Alex us very traditional. The fact that you are using the nickname rather than the full name doesn't change that, so don't feel that you must shorten another name you live. It's fine to have one shortened and one not ( most of us will presume it's shortened anyway).
Alex and Benjamin (Ben)
Alex and Jonathon (Jonny or Jonty)
Alex and Caleb
Alex and James (Jimmy)
Alex and Robert
Alex and Alistair (Ali)
Alex and Dominic
Alex and Samuel

DaveSpud · 05/03/2023 22:43

I know twins called Alex and Harris

Luca is a great name!

Caspianberg · 05/03/2023 19:46

Alex and Matteo
Alex and Otto
Alex and Evan
Alex and Benji

SquigglePigs · 05/03/2023 19:38

If you don't like Alexander what about Alexis? Alex works well on its own too though.

Luca sounds good with Alex. So would Lucas.

Others I think work:
Matthew (Matt)
Marcus
Josh
Jake
James

finallychangedmyusername · 05/03/2023 11:04

Alex and Ezra - both names sharing an unusual letter (X and Z)

Other diminutive names:
Alex and Sam
Alex and Dan
Alex and Tom
Alex and Jack
Alex and Theo
Alex and Will

Other pairings I think work well:
Alex and Toby
Alex and Oscar
Alex and Isaac
Alex and Leo

My personal favourite pairing is Alex and Theo. Both 2 syllables and 4 letters, but with different sounds. Both are diminutive names and European.

mumonherphone · 05/03/2023 10:30

Also, I like Alex and Thomas together. And think Thomas works as a European name.

mumonherphone · 05/03/2023 10:27

Alex and Luca
Alex and Ben
Alexander and Benjamin

...All work as potential combinations in my opinion. Don't like Felix, can't get past the cat thing either.

twins23 · 05/03/2023 10:21

I almost forgot, thank you everyone for your lovely suggestions. My favourites are Patrick and Theo. :)

Again, Alex is our definite choice, perhaps Alexei. I'm not asking for a general opinion on the name Alex. I just wanted to see what would you name Alex's twin brother. I want to ask you all what do you think about the name Rene? I rediscovered it in our home country's name days. Alex and Rene, Rene and Alex? Would this work? Thank you. 😅

@AmyandPhilipfan Alexander is just not really for me. I've tried to love it, but I can't. I've thought of Alexei because of it's european connection but I'm worried that it may be too unique with our other options. I want the twins to have names with similar popularity so there's no jealously over the other's. Honestly, I don't see anything wrong with the name being unisex because we're giving him a proper male middle name. Times have changed and when the twins grow up there will be female Jameses running around. But that might just be me. 😁

I think you need to remember you are naming a man, not a baby. He may want use a longer version, why take that choice from him.
