... for a girl. Too out there or nice and unique?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
DalmationCalledStripe · 05/03/2023 08:25

I think the OP needs to come back and clarify how she would be pronouncing this. I also think it's sad that time and again some people who comment on these boards are so unable to understand that that there are other cultures outside the Uk and that the names are different to ours. That doesn't make them ugly or try hard or whatever else sneery comments are made. If you don't like a name just say it's not to your taste, no need to be rude about someone else's taste.

Bigpinktrain · 05/03/2023 08:20

Dagmar is much better I think

Sounds like a car. The new Vauxhall Dagnia!

I also thought car! It sounds harsh to me. I don't like it.

ZoZoisresting · 05/03/2023 07:57

I like it

AwfulBeryl · 04/03/2023 22:31

Does it rhyme with vagina ?

I’ve not long got up and I’m admittedly still half asleep, but I had to read that 3 times before I realised it wasn’t a thread titled ‘vagina’. Definite no from me

LuckyThatMyBreastsAreSmallAndHumble · 05/03/2023 07:43

No.

PennyRa · 05/03/2023 03:28

I would assume the gn was pronounced like ñ. I think it's pretty

mathanxiety · 05/03/2023 03:21

So many people on this thread have seen NIA and read INA.

Letter order matters.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 05/03/2023 03:17

Dagmar

Ihaveamagicwand · 05/03/2023 02:46

Sounds like an acronym

Enko · 05/03/2023 01:59

I knew one growing up in Denmark. And also a Dagny as has been mentioned.

I dont mind it as a name its not one I'd use but I like it better than some of the top 10 names.

My issue is always how harsh g gets said in English.

For the two i knew best phonetic would be

Dahv nia
Dahv ou (not quite right I'm struggling to find the soft y sound)

In most English speaking places it becomes
daGG niAh
daGG ny

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/03/2023 01:46

It’s pretty hideous

Daggy means unkempt in Australia

Daisybuttercup12345 · 05/03/2023 00:58

Vile.

RestingMurderousFace · 05/03/2023 00:28

Dog's vagina.

No.

CallieQ · 05/03/2023 00:24

This has got to be a wind up

user1492757084 · 04/03/2023 23:57

No. It's a daggy name.

Cute if she really did behave like a dag but .. it's sound is unattractive too.

TheUsualChaos · 04/03/2023 23:55

At first glance I read vagina.

zurala · 04/03/2023 23:50

I know a Daghni pronounced Darg-knee, I think it's a really pretty name but I'm not so sure about Daghnia. It sounds like a plant.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 04/03/2023 23:43

Is it pronounced 'Dah-nia'? If so, that's quite nice. Wouldn't like it if pronounced phonetically.

Monsterjam · 04/03/2023 23:34

Sounds painful

Thestresssolution · 04/03/2023 23:28

Wind up def

threeplusmum · 04/03/2023 23:26

It's horrible.

Twoinapod · 04/03/2023 23:20

Do you hate your daughter? If you want to be unique there’s loads of nice names out there that aren’t often used.

29052022J · 04/03/2023 22:59

Dagnija is a common name in Latvia, I’ve not met any in the UK

MrsHGWells · 04/03/2023 22:57
