My DD is called Violet. I've always had really pleasantly surprised reactions when anyone has asked her name. Never noticed or been told of any connotations with violent personally.

I really like Violet and Clare is fine too. Either spelling is fine Claire or Clare. Neither one is right or wrong.

Love it and have never heard of a Violet éclair so don't know what the other posters are talking about!

Only thing is I would spell Claire instead of Clare

Love it. We just have dd2 Violet as a middle name - only because DH didn't like it enough for first name territory! Clare is very underused and lovely too.

Violet makes me think of Maggie smiths character in downton! And I think she's fab!

Hate Violet, sorry. Twee and mimsy, and it’s an invasive weed.
Clare or Claire is nice, perhaps a little bland, but fine.

My aunt Millicent always enjoyed a Violet Clare, we bought her a box of them every birthday and Christmas. They were too sweet for me though.

I adore the name Violet, but not sure on Violet Clare. Violet is such a beautiful name, but the Clare just brings it down.

Love Violet (and Violette) Clare is unusual at present but I prefer Clara as I think it is more classy and less of an era.
