Do you think of Elliot as classless? And do you like it? Be kind -my brain is fried!

How bizarre.

I have an Elliot. Not that it matters but firmly middle class here...

What a weird place this is sometimes

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/03/2023 21:51

I don’t especially like it, but it’s very middle of the road, not associated with any class I wouldn’t think.

Maybe Monty would go better

Hmm that’s too posh for me!

I like Elliot rather a lot, but I don’t think it’s the same class as Henry. Or James either, for that matter, as someone said.

More like with Finn or Max?

I don’t really understand why people are bothered about class but honestly, I think there’s a lot more that identifies class than a name.
Some names are more obviously upper class or working class or whatever, but Elliot isn’t one of them.
It’s like James. A child from any socio-economic group could wear it well. They would have other class signifiers, but being called Elliot wouldn’t be one of them.

That’s what I had thought so been surprising to hear others say otherwise!

It's a lovely name timeless

Findyourneutralspace · 03/03/2023 20:43

Oh, and I love Elliot, if my opinion matters! I like to think my own children’s names (traditional) are fairly classless - and we’re a real hodge podge of backgrounds and outcomes.

GHxx · 03/03/2023 20:42

It’s always been one of my favourite boys names. I’m a teacher and have never taught one even though it’s quite a popular name

Phillipa12 · 03/03/2023 20:40

I have an Elliott and a Henry.

How on earth are any babies names lower middle class or working class? Jesus Wept! Mumsnet is batshit!

loobylou10 · 03/03/2023 20:38

My Elliot is 26 and was the only one we knew of when he was born. Great name imo!!

SweetSakura · 03/03/2023 20:34

I'd always thought of it as LMC/WC but if I liked it that wouldn't bother me.

Meandfour · 03/03/2023 20:30

barca123 · 03/03/2023 20:24

What did you choose?

We’ve called him Arthur which people seem to either love or hate 😂 it’s also quite popular apparently so might not be to your taste?
Quite a few people said he looked like an Arthur and it was already on our list and now he’s called that, I can’t imagine him being anything else.

CorvusPurpureus · 03/03/2023 20:30

Eliott is definitely LMC these days. & dated - it had its day 20 years ago.

But that's only if you worry about following the crowd.

It's a nice enough name.

I wouldn't choose it, but there's nothing wrong with it.

I love Jack and very nearly picked it for my son. I have 3 in school and honestly, I think it’s much less common now than it was say 5/6 years ago. There are no Jacks in any of my Childrens classes. I’ve been to a couple of baby groups with my son in the last couple of weeks and we’re yet to meet a Jack.

What did you choose?

Love Elliott (with 2 T’s), if I’d had a boy I would have called him that. I think it’s a smart but not snobby name, would go well with Henry. I wouldn’t have said any particular class but perhaps more middle class than others.

CastleTower · 03/03/2023 20:23

I know two brothers called Elliot and Henry as it happens. I think they go together well.

Meandfour · 03/03/2023 20:22

barca123 · 03/03/2023 20:20

I like Jack but worried it’s just everywhere!

Henry is gorgeous! I wouldn’t immediately think of Elliot when thinking of a sibling for Henry.

I’ve recently named my baby boy and some suggestions I really liked which I think would sound nice with Henry were Jasper, Louis, Jack, Joseph.

Hmm ok - we have a Henry so maybe it doesn’t go…

@barca123 , do you have a new baby already registered with this name, or am I getting you mixed up with another poster?
It's a nice name.

barca123 · 03/03/2023 20:12

Meandfour · 03/03/2023 20:08

She meant it doesn’t belong to a particular class.

In my region it’s more WC. Tends to be brothers of Lily-maes, Archies , Maddisons , Jaxons etc.

Its a nice name.
