Do you think of Elliot as classless? And do you like it? Be kind -my brain is fried!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I'd definitely put Ethan /Lewis in WC/ LMC too though

(Not that I think one class is better than another, just that as someone from a v solidly MC background that would be my assumption on hearing the names)

Hmm I wouldn’t at all actually

I don't particularly associate Elliot with a particular social class, to me it has a similar vibe to Ethan, Lewis, Max etc

I don't think it's as timeless or classic as Henry though and not names I would expect to he siblings

I would expect Henry's brother to be Alexander, James or George

I like Lewis and Max :)

I think a lot of very MC posters are saying it's WC. I grew up in the East end of London, way before gentrification, very WC family and community. Not a single Elliott. Jack, Dean, John/Jonathan, Bill/y, Jamie, Tony, Darren, Steve, Tommy, Pete (rarely Peter), Warren, Lee, Ricky, even the odd Gary. Now all have sons called things like Charlie, Archie, Jordan, Jayden, Ronnie, Frankie.
We live in a different area now and DS goes to a MN approved Montessori nursery and his classmates are Noah, Jasper, Cassius, James, Henry, Theodore (Theo never Teddy).

In what way?

There are WC Jameses, MC Jameses, UC Jameses. Elliot skews lower edge of the middle classes, and WC.

Reddahlias · 03/03/2023 23:05

I just wanted a name that transcended so called class connotations

Isn't it the person that determines their 'class' (however defined) rather than their name?

barca123 · 03/03/2023 22:57

WimpoleHat · 03/03/2023 22:55

I just wanted a name that transcended so called class connotations really! I’ve always felt self conscious about Henry being a bit posh and wanted something middle of the road

I don’t think Elliot is what you’re after, in which case. I’d say you’d be looking at James, Daniel, Samuel, Nicholas, Benjamin, Alexander, George.

Hmm yes they just don’t delight me!

And by that I mean I wouldn't make any assumptions or bat an eye lid about either name. Which to me is classless as I think you meant it.

That’s what I meant - thanks!

Henry is definitely not too posh. Elliott is a lovely name.

They both span all classes, IMO. If that is important to you, you're on the mark.

Go for it!

barca123 · 03/03/2023 22:28

Reddahlias · 03/03/2023 22:26

Op, why on earth do you care do much about so called 'class'???

And why do you disregard names that you deem 'to posh'?!

Why are you so obsessed about this?

fruitandfibreg · 03/03/2023 22:15

I know 3 Elliot's-
a weed smoking skater
a dentist
A 2 year old

I love it

Twoinapod · 03/03/2023 22:15

@barca123 where I am it seemed to have a major popularity surge a while ago. There is loads from 10ish to 20s but it’s trailing off now. It seems of that age range

AnnaDomini · 03/03/2023 22:09

Not batshit, @Knowivedonewrong , some names are more popular with certain demographics.

How bizarre.

I have an Elliot. Not that it matters but firmly middle class here...

What a weird place this is sometimes

Elliott is much more class-specific than James.

In what way?

OP posts:
AnnaDomini · 03/03/2023 22:02

Only because James is completely classless.

FakeBilly · 03/03/2023 21:54

Findyourneutralspace · 03/03/2023 20:39

I don’t really understand why people are bothered about class but honestly, I think there’s a lot more that identifies class than a name.
Some names are more obviously upper class or working class or whatever, but Elliot isn’t one of them.
It’s like James. A child from any socio-economic group could wear it well. They would have other class signifiers, but being called Elliot wouldn’t be one of them.

Elliott is much more class-specific than James.

Twoinapod · 03/03/2023 21:52

To me Elliot is WC, it’s also quite dated now.

it’s definitely not in the same vibe as Henry which is lovely.

Dated in what way? It’s still top 100 but do you think it’s declining in popularity?
