I know someone who has a Rocco but I think it's pretty awful in all honestly. Didn't Madonna start the trend for it?

PuntoEBasta · 02/03/2023 10:59

Love Enzo, and Luca.

LaLaLouella · 02/03/2023 10:15

It's not a great name - too many negative connotations...

If you like Italian boys names, how about Enzo? I was introduced to a rather gorgeous baby called this last week :)

RachelSq · 02/03/2023 09:18

I’m not a fan, but don’t absolutely hate it like some others.

Do agree there’s lots of dogs called it, but there’s loads of dogs called Max too and I’m sure MN would go for Max as a name!

You liking it and thinking it’s a good name is much more important than others opinions.

My husband and I really loved Rocco for our boy. We both have Italian parents too. When we told our parents we were thinking about it, they were absolutely mortified and couldn't stop laughing about it. So we didn't use it.

I never realised it was also so unpopular amongst non Italians as well.

Our parents said it was chavvy, even in Italy and the sort of name a mafia bosses son would have.

It was a shame because I loved the name !

Enko · 02/03/2023 09:11

I know a 14 year kid Rocco he is a normal kid

It's not my type of name but nor does it make me go ick.

It's dire. A 1970's rock star might call their child this.

Madonna called her son Rocco 😂

fruitandfibreg · 02/03/2023 09:01

A woman in my nct group has a Rocco. It's not my type of name but I prefer it over something like Oliver/Noah

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 02/03/2023 08:30

It seems to be coming up a lot recently. I saw one MNer say it was the equivalent of Roger in Italy - very dated and a with bit of a sniggery innuendo.

PuntoEBasta · 02/03/2023 08:28

bringbacksideburns · 01/03/2023 19:58

If you are Italian you could get away with it possibly.

Except it's incredibly unpopular in Italy at the moment for all of the reasons that have been explained. I'm not going to go into it again but OP can do an advanced search and find the several recent threads. They follow a pattern - OP asks, several Italian MNers patiently explain why it has some unfortunate connotations, OP gets arsey.

COPPER3 · 02/03/2023 08:23

I love it! Why...it's different! I get bored of the same old names personally.
I also like the names Jayden, Cayden etc..

Could you please define what a ‘cheap’ name is, with some examples?

Only scores 9 in scrabble?

CurlewKate · 02/03/2023 08:03

Depends on his last name.

FakeBilly · 02/03/2023 07:52

Knowing an extremely upper-middle-class, boho young adult Rocco with snob in the creative industries has switched my associations away from Rocco Siffredi.

screamingj · 02/03/2023 07:49

Rocco instantly makes me think porn star too.

NewBabyonboard · 02/03/2023 07:46

OK quite surprised on how passionate people are expressing their extreme dislike for the name but everyone is free to do so I still like it
All the best to you all

I really dislike it. Reading previous posts, I'm clearly not allowed to describe it as "chavvy", "very Essex", or "common" but without those words I'm struggling to articulate my dislike 😂
Unless you have Italian heritage of course, and then it might be different.

Justleaveitblankthen · 02/03/2023 07:30

1st thought: Madonna's son
2nd: Decent for a particular breed of dog
3rd: Happy reminiscing of Jackie Collin's Hollywood tomes circa mid eighties

Emmamoo89 · 02/03/2023 07:22

I like it

iloveyankeecandle · 02/03/2023 07:20

I know someone with the name. It's not my favourite but for those of you who keep saying about it being an old fashioned name in Italy, we'll we're not in Italy?!

Starlightstarbright1 · 02/03/2023 07:19

I literally thought it was for a dog. I know 2 dogs with that name

JumbledE · 02/03/2023 07:17

It’s a name like any other name. If you like it then use it! In my experience, when someone has used a name I didn’t ‘like’ within a few weeks of knowing the child it has grown on me and I no longer have negative feelings towards it.

Rocco is fine. 😊

barca123 · 02/03/2023 07:14

I like it! Wouldn’t use it myself probably but would like meeting one :)

Newusernameaug · 02/03/2023 07:12

Not for me

SallyWD · 02/03/2023 07:12

I know a 10 year old Rocco. Not Italian and his family aren't at all "chavvy" - quite the opposite.
