Thinking of the name Rocco
Really like it
Anyone used it?
What comments do you get ?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@NewBabyonboard , if you use it, you will get comments like 'Oh, what a lovely name', 'Are you italian?'etc but they'll probably thinking what the posters on here are saying.

KirstenBlest · 29/05/2023 13:00

@ScentOfAMemory , there isn't a Jayden in the Bible. There's a Jadon.

SeasonFinale · 29/05/2023 12:29

Gangster name from the series Your Honor (is what sprang to mind)

MrsMitford3 · 29/05/2023 12:28

Def not for a human baby.

Maybe a dog

Longdarkcloud · 29/05/2023 12:26

I understood that Chav is the Romany word for people who are not Romany so logically Chavvy cannot be a adjective for them.
I regard it as a description of pretentious behaviour by people who cannot aspire to the genuine/original and who haven’t the good sense or taste to realise this.
Guess it originates from the Romany idea of “otherness” which is generally used in a derogatory sense.

Hotvimto3 · 03/03/2023 04:24

To me its a dogs name

EmilyGilmoresSass · 03/03/2023 04:22

Congratulations on your new puppy. Rococo will be a great name :)

user1492757084 · 03/03/2023 03:44

Not a fave, Sorry.

Ross
Richard
Roland
All handsome, known but not over used.

chronictonic · 02/03/2023 21:51

I swear there is a 'Rocco?' name thread every other day here on mumsnet recently?!

There's definitely a glut of Roccos.. so not going inusual if that's an important thing to you.

iloveyankeecandle · 02/03/2023 21:46

@So1invictus what does it even mean then? Dick?!

Choconut · 02/03/2023 17:00

If you'd said Rokko I could understand people saying it's chavvy but I had no idea it was considered chavvy until I read this thread. Jayden I knew was considered chavvy although I know a really lovely one (although his parents probably do fit the term).

Dottysocksandglasses · 02/03/2023 16:27

Jenson is an awful name!! funnily enough one of the Roccos I know has a sibling called Jenson

So @DrMarciaFieldstone was bang on!

dakel · 02/03/2023 16:15

DrMarciaFieldstone · 01/03/2023 19:57

Chavvy round these parts, sorry. Usually a sibling of Jenson/Jayden/Brayden/Cayden

How shallow! I know 2 families with a Jenson and Caiden and they are definitely not "chavvy"

Dottysocksandglasses · 02/03/2023 16:13

There are 3 Roccos at our small village school.

Choose something a bit more "fresh" and unique

You might not be but those of us who are are simply pointing out that understanding the connotations of using an Italian name which is considered, frankly, dreadful, might be worth taking into consideration.

I can’t speak for anyone else but for me it is the innuendo rather than the datedness.

I suppose it is a bit like a person who lived outside of the UK considering the names Dick or Fanny. The names have strong connotations in the UK and the parents might want to know what they are in order to make an informed choice (and they may of course ignore them and use it anyway - Fanny for example is a fairly popular name in France).

So1invictus · 02/03/2023 15:38

iloveyankeecandle · 02/03/2023 07:20

I know someone with the name. It's not my favourite but for those of you who keep saying about it being an old fashioned name in Italy, we'll we're not in Italy?!

Seemingly existed since Biblical times seeing as Jayden is in the Bible.

Whereabouts in the Bible is it? I know there's a Jadon mentioned briefly in the book of Nehemiah, but I don't know how the vowel sounds/lengths would have been pronounced.

I definitely wouldn't go for Rocco if your surname is Coe, though!

The same.
Obviously given alphabet differences and semi vowel shifts over time, the spelling is different, but etymologically it's the same name.

I love it and want it for my baby boy due in June but husband knew a guy with a similar surname who wasn't very nice so won't let me call our baby the name! I think it's super cool though! I wouldn't even ask other peoples opinions to be honest. The people who don't like the name Rocco probably have kids with names you don't like!

Minikievs · 02/03/2023 13:29

The one I know has brothers called similar names to Ace, Jet, Ryder etc
Make of that what you will

I wasn't aware of any connection of "chavvy"/"chavs" with the traveller community. Are Travellers a "race" BTW as someone up thread claimed?

It means white trash where I come from, so nothing to do with your class either, but rather how you behave

Romany Gypsies and Irish Travellers are recognised as ethnic groups and are therefore protected from racial discrimination under the Equality Act. Not all travellers will come under these ethnic groups, however.

Imtryingnottobother · 02/03/2023 11:45

I quite like it. ‘Chavvy’ to me are usually made up unique spellings of names. Rocco doesn’t seem to fall into that category. Never heard of a porn star with that name, maybe I’m very sheltered.

OK quite surprised on how passionate people are expressing their extreme dislike for the name but everyone is free to do so I still like it
All the best to you all

Don’t take it to heart - people on here can be awful and I got quite mentally unwell hearing mumsnet pull my names apart. Use it if you like it - mumsnet isn’t a reflection on society as a whole x

Thankyou👍
