Nee-yah

JenniferBarkley · 01/03/2023 09:55

LOVE Nia, which I would pronounce Nee-ah.

I think Nyah would be pronounced nigh-uh, but when spoken would be confused with Maya/Maia/Mya (take your pick on spelling Grin ) as that's a well established name.

KirstenBlest · 01/03/2023 09:45

Nia - Nee-ah. Very old and popular Welsh name, same meaning as Niamh.
Niah - is it a name?

Nia - Nee-ah
Niah - Ny-ah

xprincessxjanetx · 01/03/2023 01:41

I'd pronounce both as Nee-uh

Nya/Nyah I would pronounce Nigh-uh

Reddahlias · 28/02/2023 23:15

*I'd pronounce both the same:

NEE-ah*

This. Exactly the same. Adding an h does not change the pronunciation

Vodababy · 28/02/2023 21:54

Prefer it spelt Nyah 😊

ourflagmeansdeath · 28/02/2023 17:40

Nia - Neeah like on Dance Moms
Niah - Know a little girl and she pronounces it as Nia as well
Nyah - This I'd say as Nigh-ah. But Niah can pass of as Nigh-a as well, just not Nia.

Sasha07 · 28/02/2023 16:56

Nigh-ya. I know a little Nyah. It's a unique name around here.

Twoinapod · 28/02/2023 16:53

Nia is a Welsh name and is pronounced Nee-a

Niah I’ve never seen before but I’d say the same.

Nyah I would assume nye-a again never seen before so guessing.

Thanks guys 😬 I did think Nia was pronounced Nee-a!
But wasn't sure!

How about..

Nyah?

That’s Ny-ah, too.

I know a little girl called Nea and it’s pronounced Nee-ah.

MyLittlePonyWellies · 28/02/2023 16:14

I'd pronounce Nyah nigh-ah

Nia as Nee-ah
Niah as Nye-ah or Nee-ah

Tiredalwaystired · 28/02/2023 15:59

I know a Nia - pronounced Knee-ah

WMH · 28/02/2023 15:53

Nee-ah

Meandfour · 28/02/2023 15:45

ny-ah

IaltagDhubh · 28/02/2023 15:40

Nia - nee uh
Niah - Nyaah (one syllable, like Mwah)

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/02/2023 15:39

I'm thinking more about a misreading than an actual belief it's pronounced like Niamh.

MyLittlePonyWellies · 28/02/2023 15:39

Knee-ah

I know one (spelt Nia) who is Welsh, so I assumed it was a Welsh name.

It's very pretty.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 28/02/2023 15:38

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/02/2023 15:22

Nya.

But it's awfully close to Niamh so you may get some Neevs.

I'm Irish and I wouldn't pronounce either anything like Niamh.

I'd probably pronounce them both Nee-ah

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 28/02/2023 15:38

Nia to rhyme with Mia and Gia etc.. Niah would give me pause and I'd think 'hmmmm, is it nee-a or nigh-a...' but I'd probably land on nee-a.

Nya would be nigh-a.

Beginningless · 28/02/2023 15:34

Im Scottish and for both would guess Nee-ah.

Pemba · 28/02/2023 15:31

Nia = Nee-uh as far as I know. I knew one years ago, she was Welsh.
Niah - never seen this before, so couldn't say.

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/02/2023 15:26

I’m a Londoner and I’d pronounce neither like Niamh because without the mh there’s no v sound indicated in these
