Love as a first name

Can you tell I’ve been re-watching You?

Every time I watch this show I am surprised by how much I love the character’s name - Love.

My children are Tabitha and Reuben so I don’t think I could ever use Love as a sibling name. It would sound too odd alongside such normal biblical names, plus I don’t think I’d have the courage anyway!

But is it me, or is it actually quite a nice name? (I do have a tendency to get obsessed with the names of whatever show I’m watching.

Last week, I watched The Haunting of Hill House and decided I was going to name my daughter Theodora or Eleanore. So I’ll probably have a new name obsession when I watch the next shop!)

I met a couple of Nigerian people called Love. Both male

ourflagmeansdeath · 20/02/2023 23:48

She is actually also in The Haunting of Hill House as Eleanor!!! Which was another of your names. Very lovely woman.

ourflagmeansdeath · 20/02/2023 23:47

Nothing to say except both You and The Haunting of Bly Manor (sequel to The Haunting of Hill House) have the excellent actress Victoria Pedretti in it!! 😁She plays Love Quinn in You. And no, I dislike the name Love but I do really like your childrens names!

Daisychained8 · 20/02/2023 23:26

I’m not actually considering using it 😂 it’s just a character on a TV show! I always love the name when I watch the show! But I’d never be brave enough IRL

Love Cox?

KirstenBlest · 20/02/2023 20:07

Love Bird?

chachachachachanges · 20/02/2023 15:01

What if their surname ends up being...
Lee
Smith
Lovelace
Cumming
Gold or Black or Brown or any colour really
Bacon or cheeseman or anything that's a noun!

MissMarplesbag · 20/02/2023 14:53

How about Eleanor Loveday Surname

Sweetleftfood · 20/02/2023 12:21

I am Scandinavian and it is a name there, not very common now though but I had a few boys always boys who had that name at school, but it's pronounced LouvE as in you pronounce the E at the end and the o is long. Wouldn't name my kid here though but did have Lova as a girls name which I still love, that would have been pronounced Louva

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/02/2023 12:15

Loveday, yes. Love, no.

Emmamoo89 · 20/02/2023 12:13

No child will get bullied

kitcat15 · 20/02/2023 12:12

No no no no no….just no

KirstenBlest · 20/02/2023 12:09

Cariad is awful as a name. It doesn't just mean love, it also means girlfriend or boyfriend , so it's like calling a child Girlfriend.

If you want to call your child Love, go ahead but give her a proper name on the birth certificate.

Unless your surname is Monster I don’t think it works.

This just reminded me... years ago there was a guy who worked for the company I worked for (huge global business) called Dick Monster. Our internal phone book listed by surname first, so his listing was "Monster Dick".

Please take care when naming your children 😂

I have a student named Loveth. Beautiful name - and she's a fabulous person!

Don't be daft

Ugh.

Imagine being the target for sleazy ‘flirty’ jokes all your life from teen onwards.

Exactly.
A sleazeball’s dream name.

oakleaffy · 20/02/2023 10:23

No way!
”Alright, Luv!”
”Luvvy Dovey”
So much potential for embarrassment as an older child/adult.

Judgyjudgy · 20/02/2023 10:20

I really like it

ThePixiesTookIt · 20/02/2023 10:19

It is nice but I much prefer the Welsh "Cariad" as a name.

LulooLemon · 20/02/2023 09:30

No to Love as a name.
How about Willow, Brooke, Amber, Joy, Dawn?

PuppyMonkey · 20/02/2023 08:47

It reminds me of Coronation Street when Deirdre always called her daughter TracyLuv.

I just don’t think it works in the UK when love and my love are used so widely.

I wouldn't use Love, just because I'm from a part of the country that uses Luv as a general form of address.

I have however called my daughter Cerys which means beloved ...

I didn't know that's wahat it meant. I LOVE that name.

Santasoorplooms · 20/02/2023 08:38

Thando is a lovely name from Zimbabwe that means love.
