I posted about the name Jasmine, and the comments were very helpful. The other options I have are -

Hazel
Cora
Erica

Looking for more honest opinions / other suggestions. Thanks!

Hate Hazel, always disliked it. It’s so dated.

Cora is ok, Erica is nice, there is one at my DC’s school. Makes a refreshing change from all the Evie/Amelia/Millie and Olivias.

plumduck · 18/02/2023 11:41

I really like Hazel.

I hate cora.

Untrusting · 18/02/2023 11:14

Love the name Cora

JamSandle · 18/02/2023 11:13

I like all three but especially Cora.

cptartapp · 18/02/2023 11:07

Love Erica.
Prefer Cara to Cora.

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 18/02/2023 11:03

Hazel - ageless and timeless, suggests a strong, wise woman.

WaltzingWaters · 18/02/2023 11:01

Cora and Hazel are lovely. Hugely dislike Erica.

xJoy · 18/02/2023 11:00

Hazel or Cora!

Erika is awful

MulberryMoon · 18/02/2023 10:59

Hazel is nice

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 18/02/2023 10:56

Love hazel!!!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 18/02/2023 10:52

Erica is my favourite.

Hazel and Cora are a bit drab.

TempsPerdu · 18/02/2023 10:28

Of those three I really like Hazel. It has a nice warm, straightforward vibe, lovely colour and nature connotations, and the z in the middle makes it a bit ‘spiky’ and less frilly and twee than many other girls’ nature names.

I prefer it to Jasmine, which is fine but has a bit of a precious, princessy vibe to me.

Cora is also nice but it’s beginning to sound less distinctive now and I suspect it will blend in with all the other Lara/Lila/Lyra/Mila/Cara type names.

Not keen on Erica - to me it does sound as if someone just wanted a son called Eric. Interesting about the Christian purity culture thing, as I do happen to know one who is a very devout evangelical Christian (I’m in the U.K.).

KirstenBlest · 18/02/2023 10:19

Of the three, Hazel.
I'm not sure about Erica. I don't dislike it, but it's a bit like you were hoping for an Eric.
Heather might be a name to consider. Naturey and another name for erica.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/02/2023 10:15

I love Erica - very elegant, underused and international
It is not linked with purity culture in the US! It was just quite popular in the late 80s / 90s, so there are a lot more Ericas in the US than the UK

Jasmine is very pretty, without being wet.

Cora is quite nice too

Hazel - I really don’t like. Sounds very harsh to me, but a friend of mine had a step mother called Hazel who was on the rough side so that might be why.

Laurel
Celeste
Sabrina
Claudia
Stella
Joanna
Francesca
Sorrel
Honor
Oona
Carina
Jocelyn

might be others

That's exactly what I thought too. And I didn't even believe it until it blew up on Twitter last year (purity rings and things) - many Erica's holding placards about sinning and things.

😳

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 18/02/2023 08:35

Erica is linked to evangelical purity sex culture

Crikey. Well, I've learnt something new today.

Beautiful name but.....😔 (DD knows 2 Erica's in secondary school and they are having a few issues with it!)

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 18/02/2023 07:52

Hazel is lovely the other two are not

mintich · 18/02/2023 07:50

I really like Hazel! Great name in that it's unusual enough that there aren't lots of kids by that name, but everyone knows it, how to pronounce it etc.
I think it's beautiful

laurwalsh · 18/02/2023 07:26

I love Cara sorry not so much Cora but Cara was my name but then when I had my baby girl she just wasn't a Cara she was a Mila. It's quiet amazing how this happens. I never believed when people said it but it happened and I can vouch sometimes when their born things change. I still love the name though. Hazel is pretty too

Lavenderfowl · 18/02/2023 07:25

Love Erica, it was on our list, Hazel is nice too, but softer somehow, and if Cora is sounding too harsh to some people, how about Coral?

ToAllTheStars · 18/02/2023 07:20

My honest opinions are:

Hazel - it's ok. Reminds me of hazelnuts whenever I hear it though.

Cora - I don't really like this one. Reminds me of apple core.

Erica - I like this one. It's unusual but not too much.

Loopylands · 17/02/2023 22:47

Cora reminds me of that old drunk woman from east Enders!

I like Hazel

I don’t like Erica, not sure why. Reminds me of Eric….don’t like that name. Wasn’t there a cartoon about Eric…wasn’t he bananaman?

MajorCarolDanvers · 17/02/2023 22:45

Love Cora
Like Hazel

2crossedout1 · 17/02/2023 22:42

I like Cora best from your list, and I also like other similar names - Cara, Tara, Clara, Claudia - I don't know if any of those appeal to you.
