I know you should never share baby names but I have made the mistake to the odd few
people. Am I setting my son up for a lifetime
of jokes about his name?

To me it’s is fairly classical and would use the nn Frankie/Frank

I really dislike the name but I don't understand why people would make fun of it. It's a perfectly normal name.

JMSA · 17/02/2023 19:00

I don't like it, sorry. It's really old-fashioned and not in a good way.
Seems I'm in the minority though!

WhisperingAutistic · 17/02/2023 18:59

I've never liked the name but I'm not sure which jokes he would be the butt of.

I thought it was a female name?

Frances is female and Francis is male

lovely name. No idea why he would be the butt of jokes. our very cool, hipster neighbours recently had their second child and named him Francis (little girl is Clementine)

BasiliskStare · 17/02/2023 18:57

What jokes would there be ? DS's middle name is Francis - I love it. It was after his great grand father so pretty much Classic. I have a friend who called his son Francis - first name - he does get Frank Frankie sometimes but he does not care. Most of the time he is Francis unless he chooses to be Frank etc .

I think it is a fantastic name .

I'll just add that I think it sounds equally lovely across the country- ie with a ling or flat 'a'

WineIsMyCarb · 17/02/2023 18:53

Gorgeous, elegant boys name. Frank / Frankley good diminutive to take them through life. Top of the list!

SpangoDweller · 17/02/2023 18:52

I know a couple of small Francises, one’s about three and one slightly younger. One known as Frank.

Both families are very religious (Catholic) though & I assumed this had a large impact on the choice.

It's a fab name! There was someone else on here this week asking about the name Frank, which I don't like, but Francis is lovely. I know several Francis' and it is definitely a classic name, so doubt you'd be setting your son up for any jokes. None of them use Frank/Frankie incidentally, just straightforward Francis.

ZenNudist · 17/02/2023 18:50

Brilliant name. Strong and classic. Why are people rude about it?

Spanielsarepainless · 17/02/2023 18:49

Francis is gorgeous. Frankie and Frank are diminutives not nicknames, but why do that? It's only two syllables.

Andthatstheend · 17/02/2023 18:47

Think it’s a great name.
