I know you should never share baby names but I have made the mistake to the odd few
people. Am I setting my son up for a lifetime
of jokes about his name?

To me it’s is fairly classical and would use the nn Frankie/Frank

I really don’t like Francis sorry. Frank is even worse!
Frankie is a lovely name though.

KatieKline · 17/02/2023 22:17

It's a great name!! Classic and timeless.
DS3's middle name is Francis - named after Francis Bacon.

nildesparandum · 17/02/2023 22:09

Francis was my grandfather's name, but he was always known as Harry for some unknown reason.
I had a few other male relatives with this name when I was a child, all of them known as Frank.

AnotherCountryMummy · 17/02/2023 22:02

Gorgeous, strong, lovely name!

Songbird54321 · 17/02/2023 21:54

I've only known one male Francis who as far as I'm aware has never had any issues with his name.
I have known more female Frances' though. Not sure how popular it is now (I'm 30)

BigMacAttack · 17/02/2023 21:49

I am not keen.

Iwantcollarbones · 17/02/2023 21:48

I love it but I’m biased as it’s my ds’s name. He’s never been made fun of for it. His nickname is actually Jesus due to his long wavy hair, beard and gentle manner 😂

MissyB1 · 17/02/2023 21:39

Love it! Classic and classy!

Headabovetheparakeet · 17/02/2023 21:37

I love it and have no idea why it's so strongly disliked by some people.

HoldingTheDoor · 17/02/2023 21:15

It's a dreadful name. It's wet and so unattractive though marginally better than the even uglier Frank but that said I don't see any particular reason why it'd be made fun of.

knightsinwhitesatin · 17/02/2023 21:02

I love the name, was on my list for DS, I think it’s classic and elegant

Twoinapod · 17/02/2023 20:54

To me it’s a bit meek and a feminine sounding name. But it’s becoming increasingly popular at least on mumsnet. It’s on a lot of people’s shortlists.

Cant think of any jokes that come to mind about the name though

DillDanding · 17/02/2023 20:53

Lovely, elegant name. The male or female version.

MyCatIsAnnoyinglyCute · 17/02/2023 20:53

I absolutely hate it, it’s so dreary. Have always disliked it, ever since I met someone in my primary school with the name and remember thinking it was awful. However that’s just my opinion, I don’t think it’s a name to be teased over.

PaigeMatthews · 17/02/2023 20:51

My son’s confirmation name.

people with comments about children getting teased about names must have very small and specific social circles.

antipodeancanary · 17/02/2023 19:58

Lovely name and great to give him options other than Frank

BoredZelda · 17/02/2023 19:40

To me it’s is fairly classical and would use the nn Frankie/Frank

Why not just call him Frank?

CB23CB · 17/02/2023 19:35

It's on my baby name list!

Luredbyapomegranate · 17/02/2023 19:34

Why? It’s a classic and becoming quite popular right now.

FirstFallopians · 17/02/2023 19:30

My ex DP was called Francis- I’ll always have a real soft-spot for the name.

He didn’t get teased, but he was a proper “lad’s lad” and could pull it off.

AreBearsCatholic · 17/02/2023 19:22

Love it

Londoncatshed · 17/02/2023 19:17

It’s a great name.

ShesThunderstorms · 17/02/2023 19:15

I really really dislike the name, sorry. Strangely I am a fan of just Frank though. It's a bit of a stronger name to me. If you're planning to call him Frank anyway, I'd just call him that but I'm not one for having a different name on the birth certificate to what they're called day to day.

WinterFoxes · 17/02/2023 19:12

It's a great name. A classic. And I like Frank and Frankie as nn.

Choconut · 17/02/2023 19:08

I don't like it at all, it sounds very feminine to me. I could only imagine it suiting someone like Mark Francis from Made in Chelsea, very rich, art collector, calls everyone daaaarling.
