Gentle giant name for a boy?

Cocolatte24 · 17/02/2023 16:57

I recently had a son and we’re struggling to find a name; he’s a gentle giant and super tall so I’d like to find a name that suits a larger baby and is quite soft/ round sounding if that makes sense?

I’m looking for any ideas and also ones that lend themselves to a nickname

So far we’ve thought about Henry and Barney but I’m not sure how I’d shorten Henry - I don’t like Harry or Hal, and Barney just reminds us of the purple dinosaur!

Any ideas?

@tiggergoesbounce has hit the nail on the head, Jude is the perfect name for a gentle giant

Hank is a nickname for Henry - which in my head, suits a gentle giant baby 😁

I dated a big kiwi rugby player called rowen. Absolute definition of a gentle giant.

Thanks all so much for the suggestions they’ve really helped.
Obviously no one knows how big he’ll be when he’s grown up but he was 2ft at birth and never dropped weight. We’ve also got tall people on both sides of the family so I’d be surprised if he ended up on the small side but you never know 🤷🏻‍♀️

But I'm also on the view your naming a future man, and all babies are gentle.

You never met my son Taran, it means thunder and that’s because he was born loud and feisty and never stopped 😂

DS was over 10 lbs at birth and is now only a moderately tall, slim 15 year old.
What about Adam nn Addie?

Fionn - anglicised version Finn, after a famous giant from Irish folklore.

There's an NHL player named Maxx, apparently his mother spelt it that way because he weighed 11lb at birth. Not to my taste but gets the point across!

Being 6’3 (4-5 inches above average height for a man) doesn’t make you a giant or even more than a bit tall! Otherwise I’m a female giant at 5’9 (4-5 inches above average height for a woman) and my teen daughter is a giantess at 5’10! My DH at 6’1 looks utterly average in any crowd and has never been described as tall. Just regular.

You can be tall, small or any height you like but a gentle GIANT is surely someone far, far beyond average height and presumably general overall weight and size too, not someone lanky and skinny but tall? So it definitely can’t apply to a newborn baby !

I agree with others - Ben.
My dad is a 6ft3 giant teddy bear of a man, Ben suits him great!

The giant Alexander is a lovely book. And a nice name for any size of person.
