What do you think? Prefer this spelling because we like the shortening Nico.

Just be aware that the spelling will need to be corrected
DS's first name is a "full" name but we have never ever called him that and always introduce him by the "short" name, school use the short name too. Only reason for giving him the full name is to give him "options" when he is older. So, name him Nicholas/Nicolas and just call him Nico, we have no issues with this approach for DS

I'd assume the French pronunciation (Nicola) with that spelling.

Nicolas is really nice. I love the French films Little Nicolas and Little Nicolas on Holiday.

Fine. But he'll probs to forever be correcting the spelling, so if you're going to call him Nico, why not just go with that?
