I'm pregnant with my second boy, due in April. I've always really liked the name Valentine for a boy.
Opinions please?

I knew a Dutch Valentijn. He was a delightful boy.

Remmy123 · 17/02/2023 12:05

No teenage boy or man wants to be called Valentine

megletthesecond · 16/02/2023 10:45

No. It will drive him mad.

purpledalmation · 16/02/2023 10:44

I love it but think he'd get bullied. It's quite an effeminate name

WaltzingWaters · 16/02/2023 10:33

I’m afraid it’s a hard no from me.

Valentine is attractive for a second name where it can't be shortened to Val.
As a first name try Valentino - Valto, Tino - nick names are more masculine than Val and Tina.

Basilthymerosemary · 16/02/2023 07:30

I love the name but wouldn't use it as a first name.

LizzieBet14 · 16/02/2023 07:15

No - it's awful - I can imagine the poor boy being mortified introducing himself as he grows older. A teenage boy called Valentine? I've got a teenage son.... Please don't do it to him.

MenoEek · 16/02/2023 07:14

I love the name Valentine and have only ever heard of it as a boy's name in England. However it is one of those names that will lead to this kind of exchange-

Oh, was he born on 14th February?

No.

Oh.

Valentino etc much worse.

pictoosh · 16/02/2023 07:09

No.

littlelandlord7 · 16/02/2023 07:05

Love it

We had our first son last year and he's a Valentine. Currently Val for short

Doingmybest12 · 16/02/2023 06:57

I like it but wouldn't use it , I your child would have to be very self assured to carry it off. Lovely middle name.

cantley · 16/02/2023 06:51

My Dad's uncle was named Valentine because he was born on Feb 14.... 1908!
He was always just Val.

TessoftheDubonnet · 16/02/2023 03:47

Please don't do this to your son!

I like it and know one who is now in his thirties. I’ve known him since he was a teen and don’t think he had any issues with bullying (no more than anybody else anyway) but can’t speak for when he was a younger.

Probably no issues from kids, they don't care . If he got through childhood without the older people having an input that's all rhat matters to me. Children are massively accepting. They only aren't because adults tell them otherwise

LazyDaisy89 · 16/02/2023 03:37

I know a child Valentine who has no problems with his name, very happy and popular child!

Mommawasafarmgirl · 16/02/2023 01:34

No

Whywere · 16/02/2023 01:32

Yes you definitely should. It’s a really good way to make sure he will never leave home and you will have someone to look after you in your old age.

ourflagmeansdeath · 16/02/2023 01:22

He won't be able to make it through a single Valentine's Day without getting commented on, but you could work through it! Not for me, I prefer Valentino but it is still a fairly lovely name.

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 15/02/2023 23:53

I like it. It reminds me of Poldark's son.

Luredbyapomegranate · 15/02/2023 23:50

Behave.

Victor is nice. Or Constantine.

ThatshallotBaby · 15/02/2023 20:16

I love it. I also like Valentin.

So1invictus · 15/02/2023 20:15

I've not taught many Valentinos but I've yet to meet one that likes it.
I imagine Valentine will be the same tbh.

Pinkdafodils · 15/02/2023 16:44

What's there to bully? And.what's wrong with Val?

William nickname Willy or Teddie are names that might get teased. But I can't see anything wrong with Valentine

Because children will infer he is a girl no matter how he chooses to identify that implication will cause him to be laughed at. My brother is a Noel...here comes Christmas ding ding etc. Flora was hi Marg spread it about do you? Kids are cruel
