Middle name for Hero

Expecting a baby girl and we’ve decided on first name Hero. Our other children have unusual but not unheard of names with more traditional middle names but struggling to find a name that flows nicely with Hero. Our first mn pick was Emilia but gone off it a little now, any suggestions?
Our last name is rare but not ‘weird’ or able to be turned into a joke, and begins with an S.
thanks 😊

People are being right twats about the name Hero, which is a) a fantastic name - my DS has one in his class who is 14/15 - and b) a girl's name. They're showing ignorance and lank of manners!

I think 1 or 3 syllable middle names go well with 2 in a first name:

Hero Grace
Hero Claire
Hero Jane
Hero Jennifer
Hero Catherine

Looking above, Helena really stands out to me, especially if your ''S" surname has 3 syllables.

Pac35 · 15/02/2023 13:15

Hero Florence?

I like the suggestion 'Hero Violet' too

I love the name! I'm not sure what could be added as a middle name yet though as it's so strong I can't think of anything to follow it!

Are you giving a middle name to be used as a 'known as' if they want to later in life? For example I have two friends who go by their middle name professionally but friends call them by their first name. Or is it because you just want a middle name, which is also fine 🙂

Definitely just would like a middle name as my two children also have middle names but not against her going by a middle name should she prefer it when she’s older 😊

I love Hero! I think it sounds great.

Not sure for a middle name but just wanted to say it's a lovely name. I would assume Hero is a girls' name.

Congrats!

Hero is a girl's name. Its an unusual one, but I've met an (adult) female Hero, and basically if you're a bit posh/London I doubt it would be seen as all that out there.

I do think having a more traditional middle name might be a good balance, and I actually think Emilia is lovely - a bit better than Elizabeth/Grace/more 'middle name' names. Equally, is there someone you could name her after? I really like middle names that have a family connection. Or even a character/writer/person you admire?

That said, Hero Rosalie sounds nice to me as it echoes the 'o' sound without being rhyming.

Or Hero Imogen.

If you want more optimism, go to Nameberry. Mods there enforce polite wordings and users are more into unusual names.

my suggestions are:
Hero Katherine
Hero Josephine
Hero Louise
Hero Matilda
Hero Cecilia
Hero Georgina
Hero Helena
Hero Anastasia

something longer sounds better with Hero.

Hero Anastasia sounds lovely! Thank you for your suggestions. Will go ask my partner what he thinks!

I like hero it’s a popular Japanese girls name too although I think it’s spelt Hiro

i like Hero Erina (another Japanese name)

BoldandBright · 15/02/2023 13:11

Definitely liking something more frilly & girly to pair it with and a longer name. Josephine sounds lovely but unfortunately we have a Jo in the family and I don’t want it to be a “you’ve named her after me” 😅

I think if you changed it to Hera, you would get a better flow with many of the more traditional girls names.
Love Hera Josephine!

RoseHarper · 15/02/2023 13:09

Hero Juliette, Hero Susannah, Hero Grace, Hero Lucinda...think it needs a second name with a hard constonant sound at the start, anything which starts with a vowel seems to just run together when you say them.

HaPPy8 · 15/02/2023 13:08

I like the three syllables names after it that people have suggested as they seem to flow all … like hero Josephine above, or Alexandra, or Francesca.

I like it OP.

BacktoSlack · 15/02/2023 13:07

To answer OP, I personally wouldn't use Hero for a boy. Big headed sounding plus a big burden for a child to be named something so strong IMO. I like the less frilly names for girls, just think Hero is v odd for a girl and Hera is gorgeous.

BurntOutGirl · 15/02/2023 13:06

BoldandBright · 15/02/2023 12:49

Those that don’t find Hero feminine would you use it on a boy? Just curious. Shakesperian Hero was female and with an ‘e’ looks more feminine to me than Hiro (Big Hero 6 character).

Before l read the full post, l thought it was a boy's name... and a pretentious one.

aSofaNearYou · 15/02/2023 13:04

Surprised people are saying this is bad for a girl - this is the main context I've ever heard it used.

I'd much rather use it for a girl than a boy, comes across a bit big headed for a boy I'd say (since they actually get called heroes).

mottle · 15/02/2023 13:04

I like it.

Hero Vanessa
Hero Elise
Hero Anais
Hero Clarice

Louisa4987 · 15/02/2023 12:59

There's not much that sounds right with Hero to be honest (because it's hideous especially for a girl) but I'd focus on giving her a nice middle name if you're that set on such an awful first name so she can go by her middle name as soon as she's old enough.

LynneBenfield · 15/02/2023 12:56

Hero is a girl’s name, what are people on about?

Hero Julia
Hero Lucy
Hero Anna
Hero Catherine

kindredspirits · 15/02/2023 12:53

LOVE the name Hero. There's a fabulous book character called Hero Jarvis, and I always thought I'd use this name if I had another girl. Hero Josephine, Hero Violet, Hero Georgina, Hero Anne...

BoldandBright · 15/02/2023 12:51

blippyissilly · 15/02/2023 12:49

I'd concentrate on the first name first and then the middle name

The first name isn’t up for discussion really, we’ve chosen it. A traditional middle name is what we’re looking for, to match our other children’s middle names

Choose something simple because chances are she will go by her middle name anyway…
