Congrats! I'd go Edward or Ted as a name. Teddy on an adult man is questionable

PassTheDuckie · 14/02/2023 10:53

Love it. But would put Theodore on the birth certificate.
congratulations.

crazysausagespart2 · 14/02/2023 10:51

All these people who say Teddy isn't a name for a grown up? Would you say that to Teddy Roosevelt or Teddy Sherringham?

Judgyjudgy · 14/02/2023 10:38

Cute for a baby or kid, not for an adult

Riverlee · 14/02/2023 10:38

Know lots of babies names Teddy locally. Also dogs (especially cockerpoo type dogs).

I agree, use Edward, Edwin, etc

Congratulations on your new baby.

sillysocks22 · 14/02/2023 10:34

I know a 21 year old Teddy - suits him and causes him no problems. I also know a Ted in his 40s - it might be something else on BC but he is only ever known as Ted, even at work. If you like Teddy go for it - by the time he is older there will be so many grown Teddys about no one will bat an eye. Congratulations on you baby!

You can get lots of good diminutives from Edward.

Lots? Ed or Eddie come to mind...

Tecksupport · 13/02/2023 19:47

Go with Edward on the birth certificate, you can use Teddy as his "known as" name. That way if he's not keen on it as a teenager he has options. You can get lots of good diminutives from Edward.

Pinkdafodils · 13/02/2023 19:42

How do people get Teddy from Edward? I could understand Tedward, but surely Edward naturally shortens to Ed or Eddy??

YouJustDoYou · 13/02/2023 17:30

Picture his CV when he's 40.

RuthW · 13/02/2023 17:27

No awful. Edward or Edwin or Edmund or Theodore and maybe call them Teddy.

You are naming a grown man not a dog.

Iris1976 · 13/02/2023 17:23

It's your child so name them what you would like to, there's always going to be some that love and some that hate whatever it is.

Pasadenadreaming · 13/02/2023 17:21

DD has a Teddy in her year at school, but says he is really an Edward which seems sensible - up to him then if he wants to use Edward when he gets older.

LittleBearPad · 13/02/2023 17:20

Edward, Edgar, Edwin, Edmund or Theodore and then Teddy as a nickname. He won’t always be a week old.

Evenstar · 13/02/2023 17:19

My Edward has always been Ted or Teddy in the family, but most of his work colleagues call him Ed. I think it is definitely better to have a name with more “grown up” options as they get older

Consufed · 13/02/2023 17:16

Congratulations Smile Teddy is fine as a nickname. I like Edwin as full name.

Paturday · 13/02/2023 17:12

If you love the name then why not use it - you haven’t mentioned why you can’t decide?

Teddy is nice, Ted is cool, Edward or Theodore good if you want a formal option too.

Congrats on your baby!

2crossedout1 · 13/02/2023 17:08

I really love Edward.

The Edwards I know have nicknames Ed (in his 40s), Eddie (16yo), Edward (ie no nickname) (15yo) and Ted (10yo).

MissMarplesbag · 13/02/2023 17:05

Register him as Edwin, Edward or Edmund on the birth certificate and use Teddy/Ted as the nn. I couldn't take an adult Teddy seriously in a work capacity.

hiredandsqueak · 13/02/2023 17:02

Dgs is Ted and it suits him really well. His full name is Theodore so the option to use that or Theo later on if he prefers.

allthelittlelights · 13/02/2023 17:02

Edward or Theodore.

HerculesMulligan · 13/02/2023 16:59

I have a Theodore, known to everyone as Ted (and Teddy as a newborn, but that faded away when he was a toddler). He's the very best boy there's ever been and I still love his name. Go for it!

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 13/02/2023 16:58

It's lovely, but I agree with pp that Edward gives him options later on. In my London suburb there seem to be lots of younger Teddies, and I know of one 17 year old Ted.

HermioneWeasley · 13/02/2023 16:57

Absolutely not. He won’t be a cute baby forever. Call him Edward with the nickname ted/teddy/Ned

Smilesarecontagious · 13/02/2023 16:53

FadoFado · 13/02/2023 16:51

Congrats on your new arrival!

Thankyou 😀
