My DS is Edward, when he was a baby it was Teddy and now he's almost 6 he's Ted. There is another boy in his class called Teddy.

adriftabroad · 14/02/2023 16:32

Teddy is a nickname.

Edward.

Pinkdafodils · 14/02/2023 16:28

They are perfectly happy with their name and never get any grief about it.

Of course people are polite - I'd never tell a Teddy that I find his name silly, I just think it.

OldTrot · 14/02/2023 16:22

@HoldingTheDoor weird. I'll refrain I think now!

flutterbyebaby · 14/02/2023 16:17

It's a lovely name, I know of four Teddy's born in the past couple of years, plus my bil is a Ted.

icefishing · 14/02/2023 16:13

They are 15 and tower over their mum now.

icefishing · 14/02/2023 16:11

I know a teen Ted, Theodore on bc and was Teddy as a baby.

Just as I always post the same thing on certain name threads.

HoldingTheDoor · 14/02/2023 16:04

HoldingTheDoor fingers crossed you don't stalk me in real life too!

Don't worry. I don't stalk anyone. I only recognise your post from all the Teddy threads over the years, because you post the same thing on most of them. I know nothing and don't want to know anything about any your other posts.

TangledWebOfDeception · 14/02/2023 15:56

Teddy is already a nickname/diminutive so it'd be a bit odd to have a nickname of that IMO.

Love the name as a diminutive though! Either for Edward or Theodore for a boy, or for Theodora for a girl.

And if you give him a 'proper' name then you can use Teddy or Ted interchangeably as his nickname which is even better.

Mine is an Edward. He has stuck eith Teddy though. He’s 15 now and is very clear that he prefers Teddy to Edward. We call him Teddy or Ted interchangeably

Toddlerteaplease · 14/02/2023 14:50

Awful name.

Also, a second child is not a given. What happened if you tried and wasn't able/getting pregnant?

Some people struggle with secondary infertility, how would that affect the situation?

Do you think he would be satisfied that you had tried or would he consider splitting from you?

So sorry, wrong thread!! 🤦🏻‍♀️😂

Ted, Ned and Teddy are well known diminutives for Edward..

They may be 'well known' but they are certainly not intuitive... unless it's Tedward or Nedward Grin

I think it's helpful when the name and nickname have the same initials.

where are you from, if you don't mind me asking?

you often seem baffled by standard diminutives.

HoldingTheDoor · 14/02/2023 14:23

So go for it OP! There were no Teddy's about 17 years ago and people 'become' their names.

Mine is 6 foot tall - trust me, Teddy just suits him.

I was looking for your post. I always feel like it isn't really a Teddy thread until you've posted.

Pinkdafodils · 14/02/2023 14:21

So kids nowadays still have Teddy bears 🧸 ?

Teddy is ridiculously twee even on a toddler. It's just about ok as a nickname but not as a first name.

Suedomin · 14/02/2023 14:13

How do people get Teddy from Edward? I could understand Tedward, but surely Edward naturally shortens to Ed or Eddy??

Elphame · 14/02/2023 14:07

I have a breed of dog that looks very like a teddy bear. Every other one is named Teddy.

Go for a more formal name for the legalities to give the baby options later and use Teddy as his daily name.

Suedomin · 14/02/2023 14:06

Call him Teddy but name him Edward or Theodore.. That way he will have choices. My DH was named something similar and he has always wished his parents had called him by the full formal name , as something cute when a child isn't as cute for a middle aged man and it has caused him embarrassment

FadoFado · 13/02/2023 16:51

there are quite a lot babies and toddlers called Ted and Teddy these days. It's definitely one of those names that's exploded in popularity in the last 2 or 3 years.

I agree, everywhere you go there's one!

All I imagine is a fluffy 6 foot Teddy 🧸 Grin
