I absolutely love the name. I'd go with Edward or Theodore but announce him as Teddy. Congratulations.

WakyWally · 07/08/2023 14:59

No need to be rude. Its my opinion for future babies not your sprogg

Nah. Too childlike. Edward is better.

Considering the child is now 5 months old, your advice is probably unneeded!

Not a fan. What can seem cute for a baby is ridiculous for an adult man.

Oh shut up what a load of crap

This whole notion of won't get a professional job due to a name Bull shit

Got to put a pompas name on the birth certificate you'll never use bull shit

Names won't suit a grown man bull shit

Mumsnet is supposed to support each other not rip other people and bring them down at every opportunity

I'm coming off this site it's toxic

You don't know what the ops are going through and how these throw away nasty comments affect a person

Theodore Roosevelt, Edward Kennedy.

Point being they were often referred to as Ted/Teddy as adults and it still suited.

bellswithwhistles · 15/02/2023 21:42

Edward.

Shortened to Ted or Teddy.

Cute for a baby. Not for a grown man.

I know one. He is just Teddy/ Ted. No one bats an eye and it suits him

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 15/02/2023 21:29

Two of my Dses have friends called Teddy. Aged 25 and 22. I have no idea if they are Edwards or not - only ever heard them called Teddy. It’s absolutely fine as a name.

Teddy Roosevelt, Ted/Teddy Kennedy….not all baby names. I think Ted or Teddy will work at all ages. Lovely choice 🙂

Theodore Roosevelt, Edward Kennedy.

Pinkdafodils · 15/02/2023 21:21

But Roosevelt was a Theodore

I know two toddlers Teddie and Teddy, both also get Ted. Wouldn't be my choice but I think there will be plenty of grown men called Teddy in the next couple of decades when all these toddlers grow up so it won't seem strange. I think Edward will seem a bit dated personally.

Theo/Theodore also very popular at the moment

I have a Theodore known as Teddy. Teddy is cute but i think it's best to go for Theodore or Edward so he has more options for what he wants to be called at different times of his life. Having said that there's loads of alfies, archies, albies around and Teddy isn't anymore cutesy than those names.

CakeRattleandRoll · 15/02/2023 13:37

My 10 yo DS is Edward, but has only ever been called Teddy or Ted. Although within the family we also call him Bear quite a lot. He loves his names and has a large collection of bears!

gogohmm · 14/02/2023 19:08

Call him Edward, gives options as an adult

Dandelionsinthegarden · 14/02/2023 19:03

I have a Teddy but his full name is Theodore as when he is older he might want to use Theo. He goes by Ted or Teddy atm

FiftyPenceWorth · 14/02/2023 18:57

I love the name Teddy - if I'd had a boy, that's what he'd have been called. My grandad was Edward but known as Teddy throughout his life. My dad is also Edward, but he gets Eddie or Ted. None of my siblings have boys either, unless you count my sister's dog who's called - guess what - Teddy 😊

icefishing · 14/02/2023 18:33

Pinkdafodils · 14/02/2023 16:28

They are perfectly happy with their name and never get any grief about it.

Of course people are polite - I'd never tell a Teddy that I find his name silly, I just think it.

They aren't actually called Teddy as I noted.
I don't think Teddy sounds silly for a toddler.

I actually suspect that it soon won't sound odd for a teen.

I think teenagers are pretty brutal with each other about most things that they notice. Ted hasn't been a name to attract any attention though.

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/02/2023 16:44

Edward or Theo/dore nn Teddy

Teddy is too babyish as a full name, although cute.

cptartapp · 14/02/2023 16:43

Teddy, lol. No.
Edward is lovely.

oakleaffy · 14/02/2023 16:42

Too simpering and twee for a teenager/adult male.
Ted if you absolutely must.
Fine for a fluffy poodle.

StressedToDeathhhh · 14/02/2023 16:40

There's absolutely loads of baby Teddys- at the moment Teddy is 29th, Edward 25th and Theodore 11th. So by the time your baby is grown up Teddy won't sound unusual at all for a grown man
