Opinions on Hazel?

Expecting a baby girl and tossing the name Hazel around. Looking for opinions on the name ie, what vibe does it give off/associations?

Older siblings are Niamh & Eoin

Thanks!

I'm another who thinks it's slightly dated. Also as your other children have very Irish names, (both lovely btw) it looks a bit out of place with theirs.

Undertheoldlindentree · 15/02/2023 06:29

Sorry, I too find it dated and also a bit 'fey' (not in a good way). Although it's a 'nature' name but the word looks ugly to me and sounds harsh.

Like a pp, I too imagine someone with a tight perm - maybe nylon overalls and possibly a smoker. No idea where this horribly stereotypical downbeat image is from as I've only known one Hazel in real life. She was a child and very indulged by her parents, so maybe it set off a lifelong dislike. As a name group I'd class it with Denise and Carol. Strangely, not with Willow or Robyn etc - they seem like fresher nature names without the 60/70's history. Also less potential for teasing (Hazel nut/nutter!).

I'm sure if I ever met a cute toddler Hazel, I'd reverse my view! Good luck and just go for what you love!

Love it!

My Nanna was a Hazel (died at 88 in 2020) and used to belong to a club here in Oz called "The Happy Hazels". There were so many born around the same time they formed a club. Now defunct, but Nanna loved catching up with all the other Hazels 😍

100% for me, use it!

Snugglemonkey · 15/02/2023 02:56

I love it, such a beautiful name.

RideMeStallion · 15/02/2023 02:29

Really lovely name! Nature and colour associations.

Kokeshi123 · 15/02/2023 02:25

It's very nice, though it might become quite popular going forward! It fits with the current trend of nature names.

Lunaloud · 15/02/2023 02:21

Like it, I know two 6yo Hazels.

HarryBlaster · 14/02/2023 22:58

I think of Watership Down. Beautiful book, lovely name.

HusbandKeepsSnoring · 14/02/2023 22:42

Love it. Wanted it for DD but DH vetoed!

Theraffarian · 14/02/2023 07:45

It reminds me of an American t.v. show about a middle aged live in maid.

bobby81 · 14/02/2023 07:30

Love it. Have only known one & she's great.

Ilovedthe70s · 14/02/2023 07:27

Pretty name, I think increasingly popular. I see 5 or 6 at grandchild’s primary school, 2 older ladies, 3 springer spaniels and several rabbits.

Hazel is very pretty and great for a grown woman too.

IsThePopeCatholic · 13/02/2023 21:47

No. It’s boring.

Angelina1972 · 13/02/2023 21:42

Love it. I always wish I’d had twin girls I would have called Heidi & Hazel 😌😌

uthredswife · 13/02/2023 21:36

My dd is 12 and is called Hazel. Haven't met another child called it. She's the sweetest little pet ever and the name suits her down to the ground. I've never regretted it for a minute.

KangarooKenny · 13/02/2023 21:28

I like it

Watership Down.
Beautiful.

Findyourneutralspace · 13/02/2023 20:57

One of my favourite people is called Hazel. She’s in her 60s. She’s elegant, kind and wise, and that’s what the name says to me.
I also know a child Hazel and she’s a gentle soul. So I say, it’s a beautiful name.

Fiddledeedeeee · 13/02/2023 20:47

I’m biased as I am currently feeding my 6 week old Hazel, but I love it 🙂

Rosecherry · 13/02/2023 20:04

Hazel is a beautiful name. 😀
To me I think of autumn colours and it sounds a nice heart warming name. It's a name I would put in your final short list as you are already thinking of it.

But whatever final name you do choose it will be special to you as it's your child.

CarbsAreNotMyFriend · 13/02/2023 19:09

So beautiful 😍 Wish I'd thought of it for my daughter!
