What is everyone’s opinions on Katrine as a name.

It is a very beautiful loch in Scotland (DH is Scottish, I’m English). Sir Walter Scott used it to write his lady of the lake poem. But it is also a ‘proper’ name in its own right, which I know is important for mners.

It is pronounced Catrin (which is the Welsh version of the name). Would you pronounce Katrine this way.

Do you like it, love it or loath it?

Lovely but I would have pronounced it Kah treen.

LadySeafish · 12/02/2023 16:55

Lovely.

I know Loch Katrine very well, my mum is from up that way. Lovely loch and lovely name

Thanks all. We thought about Katrin (without the E) but then it wouldn’t be linked to the loch.

Katrina is a different name in my mind.

Don't go Katrin! Katrina is cuter x

Lovely name with a beautiful connection...I'd probably remove the 'e' for the reason mentioned above though, just so no one can quibble over pronunciation!

It's a beautiful name - I would have pronounced it to rhyme with latrine, but once I was corrected would have no problem with the other pronunciation.

I'd stick with Katrin which is a great name. Katrine rhymes with latrine.
