Using my maiden name as a first name for dd

Expecting a dd maiden name is Clemence.
Would it weird to use it? or nice because it keeps the family name?

I like it, I would maybe go for Clemency but both are nice

AnotherNameChangeYes · 12/02/2023 17:26

I prefer Clemency. I guess she’ll be called Clem or Clemmy either way.

caramac04 · 12/02/2023 12:12

I think it’s lovely

Allthingsbrightandbeautifulx · 12/02/2023 11:57

My SIL used her maiden name as DS’s first name, pretty common first name - Jackson and a friend did the same with her DD - Cassidy.

ChatInMyFlat · 12/02/2023 11:56

My son has my surname as his middle name. He also gave his child the same middle name.

I love it.

DuchessOfSausage · 12/02/2023 11:51

use it as a middle name for all your DC

Thewizardssleeve · 12/02/2023 11:44

Do it! it's beautiful 🤩 i gave my maiden name as my sons middle name, wish i'd given it as his first name now.

PrunellaDeVil · 12/02/2023 11:35

This is how Beyoncé got her name!

WaltzingWaters · 12/02/2023 11:21

A lovely name and a lovely idea. I like Clem/Clemmy for short.

GCWorkNightmare · 12/02/2023 11:17

Wondering why someone wanting to pass their name onto their child would take their partner’s surname. Surely would have been easier for your husband to take your name and then you’d all have it.

sunglassesonthetable · 12/02/2023 11:05

I love the idea and it's the perfect pretty name to do it.

Let's face it some names wouldn't work. eg
Trump, Hancock, Mogg, etc Just picked those out!

Stylemyhairplease · 12/02/2023 11:04

I only know Clemence as a male name, but I do have a female friend called Clemency, nn Clem.

Snoopystick · 12/02/2023 11:02

It’s a lovely name - I’d go for it if you love it

Is it pronounced as 'Cleh-MON-se' with emphasises in the middle, or more as 'Clemmunce'?

I've known both and prefer the first.

It's pronounced Clements

James Corden and Julia Carey did this. Their daughter is called Carey

StickofVeg · 12/02/2023 10:28

I love the name Clemence, I don't think it would sound weird at all.

caringcarer · 12/02/2023 10:24

A pretty name.

That's a lovely idea.

Gloschick · 12/02/2023 09:58

I like the name, but if I were you I would use it as a middle name. We tend to refer to parts of the family according to their surnames eg we're going to the Clemence Christmas get together this weekend, then meeting up with the Woodfords in the New year. It would feel odd if my daughter also had that name.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/02/2023 09:42

DP's surname is my first name and it confused someone at Eurotunnel when we had to submit documents online (for Corvid) and they initially rejected it as they assumed it was an error!

Alexandernevermind · 12/02/2023 09:36

I like it. My bil has his mother's maiden name, I was always surprised that more people didn't give girls their mother's maiden name.

BridieConvert · 12/02/2023 09:33

My husband's first name is his mum's maiden name. I think it's a lovely idea!

DogInATent · 12/02/2023 09:32

In my mum's family (Scottish) it was the tradition to use maiden names as middle names for daughters.

Eldest daughter takes the mother's maiden name as middle name.
Next eldest daughter takes the maternal grandmother's maiden name
Etc. always following the maternal line.

HowcanIhelp123 · 12/02/2023 09:30

I personally wouldn't, would be weird calling a child my surname, and if I ever split from their dad and went back to my maiden name that would get very confusing! I have a couple of friends that had children raised by them as single parents that decided to change their name to their mums at 16 because they hated being tied to their dad. Also security questions asking mums maiden name would be a nightmare!

It is a lovely name though, why not a middle name?
