Expecting DD1 and I’m in love with the name Lucia.

I’m getting cold feet a little as I know there are a few ways of pronouncing this name and I don’t want to set her up for a lifetime of correcting people.

We would pronounce it the Italian way ‘Loo Chee Ah’ but we don’t have any Italian links other than we love to holiday there!

I’d be interested to know what mumsnetters think…

Those of us of a Certain Age (40+) will remember the Mapp and Lucia Tv series (though based on much older novels) - pronounced Loo-chee-ah!

I've known a couple, both pronounced Lu-see-a, not Lu-chee-a.

I like it both ways but think you'd be unlikely to have average joe assume it's the Italian pronunciation if your family isn't Italian!

Lovely name though, best of luck.

The only Lucia I know is Loo-chee-a.

Not Italian but very Catholic.

Quite like it but yes she will have to confirm spelling/pronunciation a lot! The one I know is from S America and pronounces her name Loo-see-a. I think in the UK it will be pronounced Loo-sha a lot, as in St Lucia. Could be annoying 😂

I love it too. If I was Italian I'd have likely used it.

Love it. I know one, South American heritage I think. Gorgeous name.

I know a Lucia and she mostly uses the nn Lucy but doesn't seem to mind much if people pronuonce it differently to her.
