i have heard of washington, china, india, paris, america, london and of course brooklyn. any more you can think of?

We were thinking about Somerset as well- nothing to dow tih landed gentry mind, just we used to live there and still have yearnings but can't go back atm.

Anyway- isn't there also Somerset maughn (sp)? Once a name's in the system it ceases to be a place name.

I know someone who has named their daughter Eilean (not Eileen), which is gaelic for Island. Like Eilean Donan castle
It is pronounced Elen

Oh and we quite liked Isca for a middle name for DC4- don't suppose anyone knows how to pronounce it (Welsh?)- its the name of the old Roman Fort that was where our house is now.

DS2 is Stirling.

Never been there, but perhaps Stirling Moss's parents have, and DH is a big Grand Prix fan.

Our baby was conceived in Paris and so many people have suggested that we call it Paris but i too automatically think of Paris Hilton which isnt a great namesake.

Another suggestion has been Effiel but im not sure on that one.

Haha I don't really mind whether the cars were named after a person or the other way round, the first thing I think of when I hear Mercedes is either the slapper of Hollyoaks or a car, neither are very favourable, just as Paris makes me instantly think of Paris Hilton rather than the city. These people may have had their minute of fame by the time your child is 3 but you can bet your bottom dollar all the cars will still be around!

Bryher.
My DD, we love the island, then handily after 8 months of arguing over names we found out Bryher was being used as a girls name.
If she'd been a boy we may still have been arguing now and she's 6mo.

DP always though Skelmersdale was nice for a girl... but then he also though Lavatory was too. He's not a very sensible person
