I’ve Only ever known ones said as ez-may but from being on here I know ez-mee is also common. It’s a very popular name. I don’t see the appeal of it personally.

Highdaysandholidays1 · 05/02/2023 15:40

I say it Es-mee but not sure if that's correct. Not that fond of it if I'm honest, or rather, I think there's lots of nicer girls names out there.

Luredbyapomegranate · 05/02/2023 15:23

I like it but honestly it's done to death. I'd say it Es-me as a default but
Ez-may (which is an Anglicised attempt at pronouncing it the French way I think) seems equally popular.

How about Estella?

Pinkdafodils · 05/02/2023 11:38

Flunked french did you?

I speak French and have lived in France.

LadyJ2023 · 05/02/2023 10:57

Lovely name. I know at 19 year old Esme. But not pronounced Ez-may, that’s awful.

What would it be then? Ez-mee?

Personally I've never liked how it sounds but clearly lots do as it's very popular (which I don't think is an issue at all, both my DCs have popular but classic names).
It reminds me a bit of Otis in terms of popularity but actually just not sounding that appealing when you say it out loud.

purpledalmation · 05/02/2023 10:44

Love it. Ez may

Esmé is pronounced Esmé (Es-meh). There is no AY sound in é!

ShockI've never heard this pronunciation and I've heard that name in more than one country

Boooooring

Willdenytothedeath · 05/02/2023 10:08

It's ok. Don't like or hate it.

Don't use it unless you are comfortable with there being about 3 others with the same name in her class though as it's shot up in popularity in the last couple of years.

WeCome1 · 05/02/2023 10:05

Love it but wouldn’t be sure if it was Ez mee or Ez may

I agree that é isn’t exactly ‘ay’ but, to an English speaker, it’s pretty close.

Daffodilis · 05/02/2023 08:29

It's a beautiful name

KangarooKenny · 05/02/2023 08:28

It’s a lovely name, and Ez-may

Whataretheodds · 05/02/2023 08:28

Assuming it's a girl

Whataretheodds · 05/02/2023 08:27

If you're going to put the accent on you need another (non-accented) e at the end.
