Micah pronunciation

We have a 8 month old called Micah, we love not too popular names but never wanted to give our child a name with ambiguous pronunciation.

70% of health professionals I have come into contact with so far have mispronounced his name “Me-kah” instead of “My-kah”.

Will he will have to correct people his whole life and if so should we consider changing it before he gets any older?

I'd say My-kah because that's how the footballer Micah Richards is usually pronounced.

BringOnFebBankHoliday · 02/02/2023 22:05

I'd say Mee-sha
But would obviously correct it once told the way your want it pronounced

whiteroseredrose · 02/02/2023 22:05

Meesha

Margo34 · 02/02/2023 22:03

My-kah.

But I know one and that's how their name is pronounced so 🤷

fastandthecurious1 · 02/02/2023 22:02

I'd go with 'my kah' lovely name :)

eurochick · 02/02/2023 22:01

Mee-kah here too.

🙁 Yes doesn’t fill me with hope! It’s funny because if you think of how we pronounce “micro” in English this is where you get the mi (my) sound from in Micah but for some reason people read it differently - maybe the singer has confused things😣

My-kah

Pjmasksonrepeat · 02/02/2023 21:52

I'd guess Me Ka too but hopefully he'll correct someone once and then they will get it right. It's a lovely name.

PhotoDad · 02/02/2023 21:52

I would have assumed "My-cha" as in the prophet, and of course as in the first part of Micha-el (a longer version of the name although the spelling has altered in English!)

Luredbyapomegranate · 02/02/2023 21:51

I wouldn’t have been 100% sure how to say it

I think it’s getting more popular though, so may not be such an issue

MissHoollie · 02/02/2023 21:51

I used to think it was Me ka
Until I met someone called it who corrected me

JustDrama · 02/02/2023 21:49

I'd say Meesha

familyissues12345 · 02/02/2023 21:49

I actually used to think it was pronounced Me Sha.. Blush

Twoinapod · 02/02/2023 21:45

I think a lot of people see it as similar to Mika as in the singer, which was me-ka. I thought that’s how it was said when I first saw it. But I like my-ka. My daughters name always gets mispronounced especially by health professionals. Keep his name, it’s lovely

Nimo12 · 02/02/2023 21:39

I'd pronounce it "Me-kah" too. Don't change it though. It's a nice name!

dementedpixie · 02/02/2023 21:39

I'd say My-kah
