That's it really... Tess or Alexandra (Alex)... which do you prefer?

Alexandra! Classic, strong and elegant... but then I do have one of my own.
We have a girl Alex, she forever being mistaken for a boy when people look at lists of names! This doesn't really happen to my Alex! I think most people are aware that Alex,Charlie, Sam, Frankie etc. are unisex; it's really not a huge problem.

Tess is nice too, but is a diminutive, so I'd probably give her the full name Theresa.

The stupidest thing is that when I meet people after I’ve seen the name Alex on paper I STILL expect them to be a man, which is ridiculous. But I think it’s because at work, most Alexandra’s seem to use their full name first and then get called Alex, rather than introducing themselves as Alex.

Alexandra

LightHousePanda · 03/02/2023 11:53

Alexandra - out of those two names but also love Nina the most from your other names.

I don't get Tess - it just seems weak and not a complete name to me.

Pinkdafodils · 03/02/2023 11:03

I agree. I know at least as many girls/women called Alex and Sam as men/boys.

Twoinapod · 03/02/2023 08:32

I like Tess, prefer Tessa though
not a fan of Alex, there’s so many male alexs I think she’ll be assumed a boy a lot.

Tess

Pinkdafodils · 03/02/2023 08:04

Alex definitely.

Tess is a sound not a name imo

Mydogatemypurse · 03/02/2023 07:57

I strongly dislike phoebe but i really like Stella... estelle?

Mydogatemypurse · 03/02/2023 07:56

Alex
I think Tess is a labradors name

StopFeckingFaffing · 03/02/2023 07:49

I've just spotted your update OP

Although I love Tess and Alex I prefer Stella to both

I like Phoebe too but it has a different vibe to me and not as strong sounding as Stella

I'm not a fan of Nina but that may be influenced by the only one I know IRL who I don't particularly like!

StopFeckingFaffing · 03/02/2023 07:45

They are both lovely names so you have good taste OP

I think I would opt for Tess as its a bit more unusual and also less potential for confusion about what sex your baby is. I would also be slightly put off by the A for Alex as girls names starting with a vowel have been very overdone in the past 25 years.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 03/02/2023 07:40

We have a girl Alex, she forever being mistaken for a boy when people look at lists of names! She’s never had or wanted a different shortening though.

sixtiesbaby88 · 03/02/2023 07:38

Tess, definitely. It's very popular in the Netherlands atm

Craftybodger · 03/02/2023 07:03

I love Tess but would have to use Tessa on BC.

I also really like Alexandra and Nina.

Phoebe is fine, Stella is alcohol.

SheilaFentiman · 03/02/2023 06:55

Tess.

if you go for Alexandra, she may choose to be a different NN than Alex. Which is fine, as long as you like all the variants

user1492757084 · 03/02/2023 06:37

Tess Alexandra 10/10
or
Phoebe Alexandra

cravingtoblerone · 02/02/2023 18:51

Alex 100%

WeAreTheHeroes · 02/02/2023 18:43

I dislike Nina because it sounds harsh to me. Any of the others though.

Justputitdown · 02/02/2023 18:37

Love both but only Tess as a nn

lillyledbetter · 02/02/2023 18:36

Lovely list! I'd go for Tess or Nina - simple, elegant but cool names.

DuchessOfSausage · 02/02/2023 12:42

Tess.

Laserbird16 · 02/02/2023 12:18

Alexandra has a lot of diminutives (Alex, Andi, Sandy, Lexa, Al etc) and is a classic name.

Tess is lovely too but doesn't have as much variety.

fantasmasgoria1 · 02/02/2023 12:14

Alex

SmileWithADimple · 02/02/2023 12:13

Like Alex but love Tess
