Are Fraser and Foster to similar?

Happylove1 · 30/01/2023 16:38

I have a DS Fraser and DD Darcie
currently looking at names for baby number 3 and me and DP can’t decide on many names that we both like. The only one we both like at the moment is Foster-Jude but after discussing it with my parents they said that Foster and Fraser were way to similar. We kind of see where they are coming from but think they are different enough.
We have no other name options if baby number 3 is a boy and don’t know what to do

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Yesthatismychildsigh · 30/01/2023 17:41

Yes. Aside from the fact that it’s terrible as a name, especially hyphenated with Jude.

@SleepingStandingUp - Forbes is a Scottish name

It's worse than Foster. If OP comes back and says she's in Scotland I'll repent but it's strictly in the surname category. Accountant or similar. "Fraser and Forbes - legal advice when you need it!!"

FatSealSmugSoup · 30/01/2023 17:39

Oooh sailor! Another classic.

Cocochat · 30/01/2023 17:38

I knew brothers called Kevin and Keith. Nobody cares once they’re adults.

Jude is nice. Foster is ridiculous.

Too similar and not a first name, like some other surnames.
What about
Archer
Hunter
Forbes
Cooper
Fletcher (6 letters doesn't work here!)
Jarvis
Taylor
Sailor
Barney

You're in no position to criticise whilst suggesting FORBES for goodness sake. 😱😱😁😁

Utterbullocks · 30/01/2023 17:33

Foster one of the worst names I have ever heard. Jude, on the other hand, is lovely.

Too similar. Sounds like kittens, starting a law firm. Fraser and Foster, miaow!

My favourite post of all time! 😹 🐱

They are too similar and Foster is an awful name.

FatSealSmugSoup · 30/01/2023 17:25

Dreadful. Foster child. Why not go the whole hog and call him Adopted? It’s nice, it’s different, it’s unusual.

That’s got too many letters tho! DH’s ‘family tradition’ decrees males (only males!) have to have 6-letter names. Random.

DestinysGrandchild · 30/01/2023 17:24

Please don't name the baby foster. It's alcohol. Or a home. Or a carer.

^^ This.
Also Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
What about Flinar? Nice strong Viking name.

Sorry, got carried away there & forgot to answer your question! I really wouldn’t go with Foster.

-Its far too similar to Fraser
-It’s a verb, not a first name.
-It’s a surname, not a first name.

If it really must have 6 letters (really daft IMO) how about:

Nathan
Daniel
Robert
….gosh it’s actually really hard to think of 6 letter names which don’t sound dated for a new baby. Do you think it’s time to let DH’s ‘family tradition’ quietly die now??

Luckingfovely · 30/01/2023 17:23

Oh and what to do? Go back to the drawing board and look for other names you do like. Not complex.

Or ask on here for lists (but don't start with Foster, it won't end well).

Luckingfovely · 30/01/2023 17:22

Foster is terrible, it's far too similar, and that hyphenation is absolutely laughable. You can't be serious, surely.

Jude is a lovely name on its own but I'd let go of the Foster insanity pronto.

ihavespoken · 30/01/2023 17:21

They are both nice names IMO but both together just reminds me of this chap: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fraser_Forster

MuckyPlucky · 30/01/2023 17:20

I feel like sometimes people become slaves to these quite obscure, niche ‘traditions’ which then hang like an albatross around their necks when trying to name a baby and having to clumsily scrape about for something which fits the random specified criteria: (3 syllables / begins with Y / is a palindrome / can be an adverb / ends in -er / works equally well in French etc etc….

MajorCarolDanvers · 30/01/2023 17:19

Foster isn't a name and yes far too close Fraser.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/01/2023 17:19

Juuude.

Foster is an aef first name. It's a surname and an adjective (or some other sort of proper word).

Also two with the same initial and sex is a nightmare once they get post.

underneaththeash · 30/01/2023 17:16
