Sky or Hazel for a boy

I like Sky and Hazel for boys, and was wondering what the general opinion was on their usability. Sky has been consistently used for boys in England and Wales, albeit fewer than ten babies a year, though Hazel has never registered as a boys name. I do like softer boys names generally and many like like Rowan, Robin, Sacha which are also well used for girls. For these names, I don't like them as girls names.

These aren't names I'm seriously considering using, mostly as I like other names more and it's a no from my husband anyway, but just wondered what other people thought of them

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
YouBoggleMyMind · 29/01/2023 17:52

No to both names for a boy.

Wimbz20 · 29/01/2023 17:46

Neither

HumphreysCorner · 29/01/2023 17:45

Neither sorry

MajorCarolDanvers · 29/01/2023 17:43

Absolutely girls names - I hate Sky as a name

Viviennemary · 29/01/2023 17:27

They are both girl's names.

I love the girls name Hazel but do you think any man would be happy to be called that? ‘Here’s our new IT technician Hazel’ ‘…oh, hi, we’re just waiting for Hazel, so we can start’ ‘..I am Hazel.’ X 8 decades.

That would be my thought too. I have a widely unisex name and it still happens to me regularly, alongside "but that's a boys name"

Jacksfesteringresentment · 29/01/2023 17:22

I've met men called Leslie, Lindsey, Stacey and Kelly.
Their names didn't feel girly at all.

Jacksfesteringresentment · 29/01/2023 17:21

I don't know why people are getting their knickers in a twist, OP clearly said they're not considering these names.

I think Sky could work for a boy.
I can sort of see the appeal of Hazel for a boy, if only it wasn't already a known girls name if you see what I mean.

GallantGus · 29/01/2023 16:28

Yep. It’s just you.

caringcarer · 29/01/2023 16:28

Reminds me of the song a boy named Sue. You.must be able to think of 1 boys name you like. It is unfair to give a boy a girl's name. Think how he will be teased at school.

DoesItMakeYouFeelBetter · 29/01/2023 16:27

No. Sky, willow and Hazel are girls’ names.

OnaBegonia · 29/01/2023 16:21

I know a young Forest, might get run shouted at him a lot though 🤷🏼‍♀️

toastofthetown · 29/01/2023 14:40

Interestingly, I also like Willow for a boy, and as with Sky there are a small but steady number of boy Willows born. Maybe Willow is more accessible as Will is an obvious nickname.

I'm not really wanting to call my son Hazel, as I said in my OP there are other names I prefer anyway and I wouldn't want to give my child a name which is burdensome or controversial, so they probably wouldn't be on my final list anyway. Just wanted to see what other people though and if anyone else would see the appeal, or if it's just me.

It’s just you.

CastleTower · 29/01/2023 16:03

There is a boy called Sky at my daughter's nursery actually. I was a bit surprised, but you do get used to it. Wouldn't be my personal choice, but it's not unheard of.

maranella · 29/01/2023 16:02

Can you not find a boys name for him OP? There are thousands of them out there ... Both your choices are awful IMO - sorry!

MrsRandom123 · 29/01/2023 16:00

Neither for a boy

Hazel might be a bit close to Hazchem.

Hazem.

ANewDayDawned · 29/01/2023 15:59

No to hazel and sky for a boy. Yes to Sacha, robin or Rowan, as they are recognisable as boys names

viques · 29/01/2023 15:59

Sandunesandseashells · 29/01/2023 15:13

You could use Hazem which is Arabic or Haze which is Dutch

Hazel might be a bit close to Hazchem.

UsingChangeofName · 29/01/2023 15:54

These aren't names I'm seriously considering using,

Good to know

and I wouldn't want to give my child a name that was burdensome or controversial

So why start a thread asking then ?

I suggest you pop over to You Tube or Spotify or similar and listen to "A Boy named Sue"

Babyg1995 · 29/01/2023 15:54

No to both

stormelf · 29/01/2023 15:52

To be honest I really dislike Hazel as a name for a girl or a boy. I'm not that keen on sky either

Skyler or Schuyler are boy's names though

tinytemper66 · 29/01/2023 15:47

No.

TenoringBehind · 29/01/2023 15:47

No to both

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 29/01/2023 15:44

Hazel for a boy! 😂 Don't do that to ANY CHILD @toastofthetown And FFS don't call a boy SKY!
