I'm pregnant with my second and am really struggling to come up with names. DH and I are Welsh but live in England. Don't mind if the next name is Welsh or English just don't want it to be common.

Mabli is pronounced Mab Lee.

Not finding out the sex

TIA

Thank you for all the lovely mabli connections 🥰

Some really fantastic names here thank you. I think we're leaning towards a welsh name for a girl and an English name for a boy! Front runner for DH is Seren, it's very popular in wales which puts me off but not so much in England. I have a soft spot for Anwen but DH isn't keen. Love Ffion but where I am people will say Theeon

I met the loveliest Mabli last week - great name!

I have a Rhidian and we haven't met very many others (although we do have to correct the spelling a lot, as 'Rhydian' is so much more popular - I grew up near Llanrhidian so it looks wrong to me with a 'y'). I also love Macsen, Osian, Taran, Rhys and Ioan for boys, and Seren, Ffion, Carys, Bethan and Lowri for girls.

I've only ever met lovely Mabli's. I think all Mabli's must be lovely through the history of the universe.

ThatshallotBaby · 30/01/2023 08:18

Mabli is gorgeous. I love the name Osian.
Eira is also lovely.

goinggoinggonee · 30/01/2023 08:14

@FatGirlSwim I really like it! More than Nel actually, I just worry that she'll spend her life spelling it as we're in England 🤔

FatGirlSwim · 29/01/2023 21:47

Nel is the Welsh spelling :-)

goinggoinggonee · 29/01/2023 21:36

@freezingpompoms aw thank you I do love it.

Once or twice someone has said Mab Er LI and when ive corrected they can't hear what they're saying wrong. She gets May Blee a lot when people see it written down and if I say her name quickly people think I'm saying Maddy. So a few challenges but I mostly get lovely comments about her name 🙂

Not due till the summer so got some time! Betsi is really lovely. Thanks for the Gruff pronunciation I wasn't sure.

Loads of names to add to my list thanks so much everyone

I love the name Mabli (best Welsh name in my opinion) but do you get people saying Mab-er-li. Does my head in especially as it's family.

When is baby due?

Other suggestion:
Iona
Haf
Seren
Morfydd
Mali

freezingpompoms · 29/01/2023 21:23

Gruff is pronounced Griff.

freezingpompoms · 29/01/2023 21:22

Betsi
Betrys
Non

goinggoinggonee · 29/01/2023 20:45

I didn't know about the book I'll have a look thank you

I love Griff I've not heard of Gruff! Also love Idris but was wondering if people would assume it's after Elba. Love Nel, have never seen that spelling but it's sweet.

I love Mablis name so much, even if it is abit marmite! so I'm really struggling to find one that's as special to me

Emlyn
Owain
Nerys

Northlights22 · 29/01/2023 15:48

Osian

MerryChristmasToYou · 29/01/2023 12:29

@determinedtomakethiswork, It does in that both are M-li, but using that argument you could say that Marley or Molly sound like Mowgli too.

Given that OP already has a DD called Mabli, your post is rude.

FatGirlSwim · 29/01/2023 12:14

determinedtomakethiswork · 28/01/2023 21:33

It sounds like Mowgli though.

Except it doesn’t in the slightest 🙄
