Lilou

Could you give me your thoughts on the French name Lilou?

We are thinking Chloe Lilou. Or maybe Sienna Lilou, Savannah Lilou.

It's pronounced lee-loo.

Any similar names you can suggest to Chloe and Lilou (in style not necessarily sound)?

Thanks

Lilou was in the top 10 of most popular names in France, wasn't it? It's what I found online.
I think you must have been looking at an unreliable baby name site or one for top french names for pets

No.

Chloe is lovely but Lilou is terrible, particularly after Chloe! There's just too many vowels and l's in it. It sounds like a character from a kids cartoon.....Chloe Lilou is a french child detective......

@bellarosabella
As a nickname for Louise or Emilie maybe but in France nicknames are not the same thing as they are in the UK. They are kept very much in the family setting and it would extremely unusual that someone called Louise, nicknamed Lilou at home, would use Lilou at school / with friends / outside the home. I can't think of any nickname used as a first name. Maybe the most obvious ones like "Benji" would be used by friends, but not at school, work or when first introduced...

I think Lilou isn't elegant at all as it sounds like a made up name trying to be cute but actually very try hard. Think Chanelle, Wynter, Kathrisha in English. Sorry if I am snobbish!

Obviously because you don't live in France it wouldn't affect you as much but since you asked for our thoughts...

Thank you!

Not trying to say you aren't entitled to your opinion but top 10 feels pretty established to me and a name that high up would be used in all social classes to be able to make it so far up.

But of course personal opinions are always different. I feel the way about Harper you feel about Lilou even though it's popular too and probably used everywhere so I get what you mean.

But then again I also like Winter/Wynter ;) Everyone's different. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it!

Makes me think of Lilo and Stitch

JupiterFortified · 27/01/2023 13:37

I don’t like it purely because it sounds like a nickname rather than a real name? It also sounds very childlike to me so maybe not great as she grows older.

Chloe is lovely though. Maybe Chloe Lila or Chloe Lana x

PolarBlair · 27/01/2023 13:35

I like it
What about Anouk?

In English it's awful. Sounds like lil' loo or little loo Blush

Viviennemary · 27/01/2023 12:51

First thing I thought it's one of these awful made up names. Didn't know it was popular in France. Never heard it before. I don't like it at all.

Chloe Leonor
Chloe Louisa
Lulu Sienna
Sienna Chloe

welshpolarbear · 27/01/2023 12:19

I'm sorry op, I'm not liking it, but I've never heard it before.

It doesn't really go with the first names. Maybe that's because the two names together (whichever one of the others) would both be two syllables.

Mamoun · 27/01/2023 09:54

FYI in France is not not a classy / elegant name AT ALL.
I'm from France.

Really? How exactly?

The one I met years ago was very sweet with two lawyers as parents.

I thought it came from an old fashioned nickname for women named Louise.

I think as a full name it is modern, though.

(not saying you are wrong, just curious, because I didn't get the impression).

Sorry to be blunt 🙈

Your comment is rude and not helpful at all.

I like Lilou but wouldn't have immediately known how to pronounce it.

Chole Lilou- think there are too many "L"s and "E" sounds in there.

It'd be Clo-ee Lee-loo?

Not adoring that.

ArmWrestlingWithChasNDave · 27/01/2023 09:56

Middle names are irrelevant, do what you like.

On its own- fine. With the first names it’s terrible

FayCarew · 27/01/2023 09:51

Dreadful and doesn't go with any of the first names

lovelilies · 27/01/2023 09:33

I don’t think any of those names go particularly well with lilou, it’s a bit of a mouthful.
