Morag - no. Very ugly, harsh sounding name.

Millicent - quite a 'big' name for a child. I don't dislike it but she'd have to be a Millie with the full name rarely used.

Iona - lovely

Beatrix - love. Considered it for my DD.

Agnes - I actually quite like this name but wouldn't be able to bring myself to use it. Middle name maybe.

Sybil - no

Viola - this is pretty but I only like one pronunciation and the dangers of different pronunciations would put me off. I like it pronounced VI-o-la. Vi-O-la I don't like as much. And Vee-O-la is a musical instrument. But I met a little girl with the name once (and this is the only one I've ever met) and her Mum pronounced it VI-la - she didn't pronounce the 'o' at all so it just sounded like the word 'viler' as in more vile which was hideous.

Iona and Beatrix are really nice. I would have them on my list but doesn't go with surname, unfortunately.

Morag has to be the worst name ever (and I'm Scottish so not an anti-Scottish thing). Sorry, but I can't think of a worse name. Milicent and Agnes aren't nice either. I really don't think a girl will thank you for such names. I think being on naming boards you can end up really bored of names like Sophia, Isla, Olivia etc but I'd much rather have a nice but common name like those than something like Morag.

Viviennemary · 27/01/2023 13:45

Morag is dreadful. I am not overkeen on any on uour list. Iona is reasonable.

GogLais · 27/01/2023 13:10

@Riverlee , Morag isn't Welsh, but Iona (pr Yonna) is, but it's not the same as scottish Iona.

Riverlee · 27/01/2023 13:05

Morag - nice, I would assume you have Scottish (or Welsh?) connections

Millicent - quite like this

Iona - nice, again Scottish

Beatrix - prefer Beatrice, but nice

Agnes - sorry, no,

Sybil - okay, but not my taste, gaining popularity due to Downton Abbey

Viola - okay, but not my taste

A real mixture of names.

user1492757084 · 27/01/2023 13:00

Morag I like best.
Sibyl I love spelt the original way.
Beatrix is cute

Iona and Agnes are okay

I don't find Millicent or Viola a favourite, I'm sorry.

Masterofcats · 27/01/2023 12:52

Morag sorry but it is an ugly name and I just see rag. I have know 2 and both I just felt sorry for them with that name.
Agnes - I also see this as quite an ugly name. somewhere in my mind it appears as a blend between a algae, stagnant and fungus. Sorry I am probably really strange but it always appears to me like that
Sybill- Sorry also dislike
Millicent, Iona, Beatrix and Viola all fine.

KirstenBlest · 27/01/2023 10:40

Morag - ok
Millicent - ok, sounds a bit like Militant though
Iona - depends on the surname, might sound silly
Beatrix - prefer Beatrice, I say them as Bee-uh-tricks and Bee-uh-triss
Agnes - ok
Sybil - ok
Viola - ok. Vee-ola or Vie-oh-la?

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/01/2023 09:01

Morag - behave yourself. No. Morven, Merryn, Mirren, Manon are all ok

Millicent - a bit twee and she’ll be yet another Milly

Iona - love it

Beatrix - it’s ok. Prefer Beatrice

Agnes - really like it

Sybil - quite like it

Viola - quite like it. Yolanda is nicer I think

Theoldwoman · 27/01/2023 02:28

I love Millicent and Beatrix.

junglemaze · 27/01/2023 02:25

All ugly sorry..at a push,miliicent

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 27/01/2023 02:22

I love Beatrix and Iona - as long as your surname goes with Iona and doesn’t make a sentence.

I don’t like morag. Instantly makes me think of the highland cow on Saturday morning tv when I was a teen

AliceMcK · 27/01/2023 00:01

What about Cecelia, I think it’s a beautiful old name, very under used.

Twoinapod · 27/01/2023 00:00

I love Beatrix, had to take it off our list as we have a B surname and was a bit much. But absolutely love it.

not keen on the others

Firsttimemum120 · 26/01/2023 23:03

I don’t like any on the list, viola is someone’s last name and none seem like a nice pretty name for a girl xx

Hobbesmanc · 26/01/2023 23:02

Sybil and Beatrix or Beatrice are fabulous strong names. Such a different feel to all the vowel girly names that are so prevalent. Like Ava. And Iona, viola I'm afraid as well. Millicent is too fussy.

LulooLemon · 26/01/2023 23:01

Viola - like

LulooLemon · 26/01/2023 23:01

Morag - quite like, if Scottish

Millicent - love

Iona - love, just be careful if your surname is a noun

Beatrix - ok, I prefer Beatrice

Agnes - like

Sybil - ok

Viola

sunshinesobeautiful · 26/01/2023 22:53

Morag - dislike, sounds like rag

Millicent - always reminds me of millipedes and of money coins (cents)

Iona - lovely and original

Beatrix - prefer Beatrice

Agnes - dislike the sound

Sybil - frumpy

Viola - beautiful!

lulalulalula · 26/01/2023 22:46

I don't like any on the list, but Viola is ok.

antipodeancanary · 26/01/2023 22:44

Iona is best

annlee3817 · 26/01/2023 22:43

We had a DD last August and have called her Iona :)

Beatrix and Viola are also nice

Andrelaxzz · 26/01/2023 22:40

Beatrix or even better, Beatrice are great
Agnes, Millicent and Sybil aren't nice names to have .

LaLuz7 · 26/01/2023 22:38

I'm sorry, but I don't like a single one on that list

everythingsapickle · 26/01/2023 22:36

Like Beatrix and Agnes.
Sybil is growing on me, which I didn’t expect…
Dislike the others.
