Help me choose a name for my son

Created a new username for this - I don't usually post in this forum and may post some very outing details!
Currently expecting a baby boy

I have a daughter - her name is Ayla. What name "goes" with this?

Find boy names much harder.
So far we like Alexander or Kaiden. I'm worried Alexander is too traditional and Kaiden ends in "n" which is also first letter of our surname so worried it doesn't sound so great?

And then we're stuck on the middle name too

Kaiden Norton might be heard as Kaiden Orton

KirstenBlest · 28/01/2023 14:44

@cordelia16 , that's a consideration with a name ending in -a preceding a surname starting with a vowel or R too.

Anna Atkins sounds like Anna Ratkins

cordelia16 · 28/01/2023 14:36

I agree about the -n ending before an N surname. I had that, and I hated it. I always had to over-enunciate or else the N would get dropped off the surname.

For example, if my name were Colleen Nestora, people would hear Colleen Estora. I spent so much time with doctors, teachers etc not being able to find my records because they were filed under E!

I don't know about names but do be aware giving them both the same initials will cause confusion with post as they get old. Is A Smith Ayla or Alex? Then the annoyance when one opens the others post.

Can you tell I fell into this trap?

ShutTheBloodyBudgiesUp · 27/01/2023 15:30

Oh yes Dylan and Ayla. My friend has Dylan and Ava which work well too and Ayla is kind of similar to Ava?

mumonherphone · 27/01/2023 15:12

I like Alexander and I think it goes well enough with Ayla as they both start with A. Love a pp's suggestion of Dylan with Ayla as well, they look good together. I also thought you might like Cameron?

Really dislike Kaiden sorry.

Middle names are always just after family members in my family. My sons middle name is my dad's name.

ShutUpTheBloodyBudgies · 27/01/2023 14:19

Although Ruben also ends with en. 🤔

ShutUpTheBloodyBudgies · 27/01/2023 14:17

Ruben. I love that name, if I had had a boy he would have been Ruben. Instead we settled for Ruby as a middle name for one of our dd.

Kaiden is very much one of the most hated names these days, you should definitely be aware of that if you haven't encountered it as there will be a LOT of people judging it as "chavvy"

I would definitely go with Alexander (my favourite boys name as it happens)

Yeahrightthen · 27/01/2023 08:32

Arlo and Ayla?

Bishbashboshing · 27/01/2023 08:31

Thanks I didn't expect Kaiden to be so unpopular!
You mustn't come on the baby name boards much. It's a disliked name here and often called "chavy". Personally, I'm indifferent to it, not to my taste. I think it's too close to Aiden for me and a name which could be a fade and so date more easily. I really like Alexander though and it has options for shortened forms. It was my top choice but my husband vetoed it.

I don't, I mostly go on AIBU tbh
