Elias Micah Malachi

Katiekins86 · 25/01/2023 13:29

Pregnant with our 5th boy.

I like

Elias
Micah
Malachi (a friend told me it's pronounced ma-la-key which I actually prefer to the kai but I like both)

Which is your favourite? How would you pronounce Malachi? Do you have any similar names in your head floating about?

Thank you! Xx

I'm biased. I have a Micah and his best friend is Elias they are both strong names.

If you look at it from a religious perspective
Micah - is considered one of the Twelve Minor Prophets of the Hebrew Bible and was a contemporary of the prophets Isaiah, Amos and Hosea.
Elias -is the Greek equivalent of Elijah

I do also like Malachi too I went to school with one. Pronounce Mal-a-Kai

sacremerde · 28/01/2023 19:24

Ps I won't ask as it's probably outing but dying to know what you named your other boys given your great taste in names!

sacremerde · 28/01/2023 19:23

I really like all three of your names! Micah is my favourite boys' name actually. Have long adored it but it's quite terrible with my surname, sadly for me.

I feel like Elias might be having a moment but I still only know one of them so it's clearly not that common. Eli is such a cool nickname too.

Malachi sounds very strong yet sort of creative to me. Gorgeous.

BridieConvert · 28/01/2023 19:15

I would pronounce Malachi Mal-Ah-Kye but Malachy like Mal-Ah-Key so I'd say it depends on spelling.

I prefer the spelling/pronunciation of Malachy and that's my favourite out of your list :)

Roseyposeypudding · 26/01/2023 13:24

The biblical Malachi is pronounced -key.
Apparently also comes from an Irish name, which is pronounced -Kai.
I prefer -key

DiastasisRectiSucks · 25/01/2023 14:30

Malachi your chosen spelling is the Hebrew version (a biblical prophet- “my messenger”) and is definitely said Ma-la-kai with an “eye” sound in English.

The Irish name Malachy is apparently not related (coming from “Maoilsheachlainn”) and is said differently but I’m not too knowledgeable on that side! But that’s where the “key” version comes from

sorry, I missed that you said this as well.

EarthlyNightshade · 25/01/2023 20:20

Malachy is a relatively common Irish name with the "key" ending.
I would have pronounced Malachi that way as well but I looked it up and it's a different name.

Intemperatefatty · 25/01/2023 20:16

Great choices OP, love all them. Then again I’m biased as I have all three in my family - my ‘baby’ cousin Malachi (now 23!) pronounced Mala-Kai, and little nephews Micah (6) and Elias (4). If pushed to pick out of the three, my favourite would be Elias but that’s probably because my nephew is unbelievably cute and sweet so perhaps this clouds my judgement.😀

I’d say you can’t go wrong with any of them.

JRsTornadoOfLove · 25/01/2023 19:53

Love Micah and Malachi

Elias is nice, but think I prefer Eli

pleasejustgotosleep · 25/01/2023 19:20

Malachi is my sons name. We pronounce it with the KAI at the end.
There seem to be quite a few that I know of also so I'm definitely a fan of that name

MeinKraft · 25/01/2023 19:18

I would say Mala-key but am in Northern Ireland and that's how it's pronounced here.

liveforsummer · 25/01/2023 17:16

I'd say malakay - malakai with eye sound I imagine said in an American accent. I like all the names but Malachi probably my favourite

aSofaNearYou · 25/01/2023 17:13

I've never heard anyone pronounce it "key", always "kai", but prefer Kai anyway. I'm not fussed on Micah but the others are nice.

TheSnowWillGoOn · 25/01/2023 17:09

I like Malachy
And I also like Ellis rather than Elias

Twoinapod · 25/01/2023 15:43

I love Micah.
Dont like Elias.
Malachi is ok with the Kai ending, never heard it with a key ending, sounds too close to malarkey like that, not a fan.

all will have various pronunciations, but it’s not a major issue.

TinyTinyHamsterBalls · 25/01/2023 15:13

I would assume Malachi is like how it's pronounced on Save the last dance (I think it's that film).

If you're asking how to pronounce it as you don't know I don't think you should name your child that.

JudyGemston · 25/01/2023 15:00

Micah is reasonably common in America. Not like there’s one in every class but certainly people have heard it and know how to spell and pronounce it. Pronounced MY-ka.

SuffolkUnicorn · 25/01/2023 14:58

Love Elias my nephew is one

cptartapp · 25/01/2023 14:54

Love Elias.
Don't like the others.

DiastasisRectiSucks · 25/01/2023 14:30

Knackeredmommy · 25/01/2023 14:21

Love Micah and Malachi-I'd pronounce it 'eye' but I know of both pronunciations

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/01/2023 14:16

I like them all, probably like Elias best.

I known 2 x Mala-key and 1 x Mala-Kai. I believe both pronounciations are used.

HappyJellyBaby · 25/01/2023 14:12

I love Mordecai which is similar and has your "kai" ending

KatPatPat · 25/01/2023 14:10

How do you pronounce Micah?

Whatwhatwhatnow · 25/01/2023 13:45

There's Malachy which I'd pronounce the way you prefer.
