Which name do you prefer and any similar suggestions for first names?

Claudia is a lovely elegant name

Jemima is cute but undeniably a bit twee (like Tabitha) - I wouldn’t especially want to be called it as an adult

Claudia is automatically pronounced Clawdia in the UK, unless you specifically say it’s Cloudia, so assuming that’s what you want it will be fine.

alternatives -

Cassia
Estella
Adela

Claudia Juliet is more elegant. Jemima Kate is a tiny bit dumpy.

Blimey Midsomer. I meant lame, not blind. Totally up to Op what she chooses but if asking, useful to hear a range of opinions.

midsomermurderess · 24/01/2023 15:51

Claudia does not mean blind. It’s highly doubtful that it means lame too, not given the complexity and antiquity of the origins of the name. I do wish people would keep their daft, ignorant cod Latin to themselves. And to condemn a name out of error and ignorance, really, it’s laughable.

Nolegwarmers · 24/01/2023 14:41

I love the sound of both names but I wouldn’t pick either.
Jemima is almost unusable in the USA and therefore doesn’t travel well outside the UK. Look up Aunt Jemima and racial stereotyping.
Claudia is beautiful but I can’t get past the meaning ‘blind’. The second names you have chosen Kate and Juliet are gorgeous though!

Billslills · 24/01/2023 11:38

Both lovely but Jemima Kate wins.

ChnandlerBong · 24/01/2023 10:24

use to love Jemima but dd has a friend who shortens it to Mima. Put me right off.

dmb91 · 24/01/2023 08:47

Jemima Kate 💕

toastofthetown · 24/01/2023 08:41

Claudia Juliet by quite some way. Kate is much more dull as a middle name by comparison. Jemima is a very racially charged name in the USA, and while I wouldn’t make it my only factor, all things being equal I’d pick the name which works better internationally.

Consufed · 24/01/2023 07:56

Claudia Juliet is more interesting.

PritiPatelsMaker · 24/01/2023 07:41

Jemima makes me think of playschool.

That's a reference I don't think many Gen Alphas will get so probably not a concern for when she will be at school Wink

Smallonesaremorejuicy · 24/01/2023 03:48

Love Claudia & also Juliet . Personally don’t like Jemima or Kate .

Hellibore · 24/01/2023 03:44

Kate is short for Catherine.
Jemima makes me think of playschool.
I'd go Claudia Juliet.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 23/01/2023 22:25

Claudia Juliet. Very classy.

Jemima will always say Beatrix Potter to me (Jemima Puddleduck) and I can't take it seriously as a name.

midsomermurderess · 23/01/2023 22:19

Jemima Kate. It feels fresh somehow.

Ciaonow · 23/01/2023 22:18

Both absolutely lovely but I prefer Jemima Kate

saraclara · 23/01/2023 22:15

Are you going to actually use the middle name? Because hardly anyone ever does. So how they flow really isn't that big a deal.

Jemima is one of those names that suits a toddler but not an adult, to me. I much prefer Claudia as a name.

DramaAlpaca · 23/01/2023 22:09

Jemima Kate of the two, but I like Claudia Kate even better.

everythingsapickle · 23/01/2023 22:04

Jemima Kate (or Juliet Kate!)
Not a fan of Claudia

PritiPatelsMaker · 23/01/2023 21:57

I absolutely love them both but Jemima Kate has the slight edge for me. Jemima was one of the names I wanted for DD but DH vetoed it.

Can I add Juliet Kate into the mix?

HuntingoftheSnark · 23/01/2023 19:58

Another Jemima Kate from me.

DuchessOfSausage · 23/01/2023 19:55

RosaCaramella · 23/01/2023 19:02

WGACA · 23/01/2023 18:55

Jemima Kate 😊

Masterofcats · 23/01/2023 18:50
