I am 6 months pregnant with my first dd and I really like the name Stacey. My dh likes it too but not quite as much as me. Everyone I've mentioned the name to really don't seem to like it. A few have said it's dated and others haven't really been able to give a reason why they just don't like it. After googling I saw it's hardly used anymore and I thought it was a shame. I thought with women like Stacey Dooley and Stacey Solomon being on tv it may have had a revival but it doesn't look like it has. I know there was the Stacy's mom song but that's old now so I didn't think that would put people off. I was just wondering what other people thought and if they think it's a good name to use or if not if are there any similar names that may be good to use

I only know excellent Stacey's!

When I read it I just thought of the Ting Tings song, That's not my name.

I don't like it really. I had a friend at school called Stacey, and I know another Stacey of a similar age so mid 30s. I don't think it's old enough to have a revival and it's definitely of an era.

But I do think call your child what you want. People will learn to associate the name with the child once they're here.

Very dated like Tracey and Sharon.

It feels dated to me, but it's a pleasant name and absolutely nothing wrong with it if you like it.

Primary school age won’t know the song, but even now it’s known among teenagers, it’s irritatingly catchy. There’s a good chance as a teenager there will be a good heap of Stacey’s mom jokes thrown at her.

It’s not offensive, I find it a bit bland, a bit nothingy. Maybe as a nn for Anastasia.

Funinthesun31 · 22/01/2023 05:56

@DuncanBiscuits I think that'll definitely be something to consider! I think I thought that because it must be nearly 20 years old now kids maybe won't know it when she's at school, but the parents likely will!

I don’t love it or hate it. It just doesn’t feel special, just kind of basic.

Tbh this might be why I like it. I think “basic” names give people the chance to have a personality outside of their names.

Funinthesun31 · 22/01/2023 05:53

@ReeseWitherfork oh yeah, completely forgot about Gavin and Stacey! My dh says the only thing that puts him off the name is the Stacy's mom jokes.

It's not great, imo, but not terrible.

Maisie, Sadie, Laney, Daisy, Macy, Amy, Stephanie, Stella, might be better?

Stacey is also short for Anastasia - would that suit?

DuncanBiscuits · 22/01/2023 05:52

I know an adult Stacy. She detests the Stacy’s Mom song beyond measure…I think she hears it A LOT.

ReeseWitherfork · 22/01/2023 05:50

I think it’s a classic girls name. Nothing offensive about it. I think it’s quite cute. And I think you’re right that it has some nice associations. Gavin and. I know an adult Stacy and never remembering whether to add the E does stress me out! Tbh I think you’ll get a lot of Stacy’s mom jokes (you not her) so just depends if you can be bothered to hear them over and over again.
