I am 6 months pregnant with my first dd and I really like the name Stacey. My dh likes it too but not quite as much as me. Everyone I've mentioned the name to really don't seem to like it. A few have said it's dated and others haven't really been able to give a reason why they just don't like it. After googling I saw it's hardly used anymore and I thought it was a shame. I thought with women like Stacey Dooley and Stacey Solomon being on tv it may have had a revival but it doesn't look like it has. I know there was the Stacy's mom song but that's old now so I didn't think that would put people off. I was just wondering what other people thought and if they think it's a good name to use or if not if are there any similar names that may be good to use

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think its is much nicer than Tracey, Lacey, Casey etc. I think it has a nice soft sound and even though it is a bit basic and "dated", I think it would be actually quite refreshing to see a little baby called Stacey :) Personnally not my favourite name but I think it is useable and kinda cute :)

Bugeyedowl · 23/01/2023 16:55

Not a fan, makes me think of someone loud and gobby like Stacey slater in EE.

inquisitorgeneral · 23/01/2023 16:48

I don't think it's awful but I find it a bit dated. I'd expect a Stacey to have been born in the 1980s or 90s, along with Gemma, Lauren and the like. Name fashions supposedly work in one hundred year cycles so theoretically Stacey and other 1980s names won't be back in style until about 2080.

Little kids won't know the song but teenagers probably will.

jackstini · 22/01/2023 22:33

Love it. It is the name of one of the strongest, most incredible women I know - great name

ditherydotty · 22/01/2023 22:11

I don't like it as sounds too much like Tracey which is awful - your child though so you cancel her what you please

mathanxiety · 22/01/2023 22:01

If there's already an Anastasia in the wider family, I'd consider some other name.

BCxx · 22/01/2023 21:55

I love it 😊

Jacky86 · 22/01/2023 21:44

I love how everyone is saying it’s dated when names like Pearl, Sadie etc are making a comeback. Maybe there’ll be hundreds of Staceys in 50 years. Try not to associate names with timelines. See it as classic rather than dated.

cravingtoblerone · 22/01/2023 10:42

I think it's very dated (and not in a good way). Anything like Stacey, Tracey, Lacey etc sounds like it belongs on a 50 year old.

Princesspollyyy · 22/01/2023 09:55

Sorry no. It's just too dated.

Also Stacey Dooley and Stacey Solomon are in their thirties. So shows you that it is a dated name. The Staceys I know are also in their thirties.

ShesThunderstorms · 22/01/2023 09:49

Oh no. It's dated and not in the good way. I think maybe I'm biased as any Stacey I've ever known has been a horrible person. And it would be pronounced "Stacehhhh" where I live, which makes it even worse.

Underhisi · 22/01/2023 09:48

It's ok as a nn for anastasia but that being your dh's nieces name I think Stacey is a bit too similar anyway. There is Eustacia as well but that makes me think of ears.

OnePerson · 22/01/2023 09:47

I like it but then I much prefer the Tracy , Karen type names to ugly names like Mabel and Ethel that seem to be in for a certain type of people now.

Branleuse · 22/01/2023 09:45

It seems dated to me but not due a revival yet, but in some ways that makes it better.

AnotherNameChangeYes · 22/01/2023 09:43

Definitely goes with the Tracey Sharon type names. Also I can only hear it in a strong Essex accent. Staaaaaaace.

Xrays · 22/01/2023 09:36

I’m going to sound awful here but I really don’t like it at all. Goes along with Tracy, Sharon, Karen, all those sorts of names.

ChickenRat · 22/01/2023 09:36

I'm pretty sure incels use 'Stacy' to refer to a misogynistic stereotype of a woman who rejects them, so that puts me off the name a bit tbh

louderthan · 22/01/2023 09:32

I find both Solomon and Dooley supremely irritating so it would be a hard no from me! Although I do like the name itself.

Funinthesun31 · 22/01/2023 08:12

@ZoyaTheDestroyer Anastasia is lovely but it's dh's nieces name unfortunately

@Wrongsideofpennines I'd forgotten about the ting tings song! My mum says it's of an era too so it may be a bit dated!

OP posts:
BooCrew · 22/01/2023 08:07

It's a bit 'Sharon', isn't it? Dated but not in a good way.

I know a couple of Staceys (because I'm in my 40s) and they're both known as Stace, so decide whether you like that a nickname.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 22/01/2023 08:03

Sorry OP, I’m not a fan. The sibilant ‘s’ and ‘c’ with the ‘ay’ and ‘ee’ vowel sounds make it sound very weedy and tinny to me.

Apparently it can be a diminutive for Anastasia which I love, but it is a very different style of name.

Treeeeeeee · 22/01/2023 07:46

It is a dated and chavvy name

BurbageBrook · 22/01/2023 07:41

It is perceived as dated and (I hate this word, sorry) but also a bit ‘chavvy’. It’s not right but it is. That doesn’t have to put you off, as obviously it’s ridiculous for a name to be pigeonholed like this, but it’s the case with Stacey.

SunshineAndFizz · 22/01/2023 07:38

It's dated, but not in a cool way like really old names that are coming back (Elsie, Mable etc.), it's in the realms of Gemma, Leanne, Nicola type names.
