Would you be kind enough to discuss them with me?

Single parent, no family close. Baby girl expected very soon!

Names I like

Claudia
Romilly
Morgan
Hero
Wendy

All very different. Surname will be a double barrelled one, 3 syllables all up.

Please be kind as I feel pathetic having no one to help me.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Daftmum47 · 21/01/2023 22:26

These are all nice names!
I dreamt my child’s name too, but literally no one in the family liked it, so in the end that became their middle name. I think dreams are so powerful…. You could always add a twist and call her Morgana?

Longdarkcloud · 21/01/2023 22:25

I love Romilly.
The origin of Wendy is that as some pps have pointed out, that it was invented by JM Barrie. He had a “thing” about making friends with children and one family comprised Peter who he used as his model for Peter Pan. Another child, think it was a girl. Called him her Friendy-Wendy and that’s where the Wendy came from. So it’s a sort-of meaningless name.
It seems such an important thing choosing a name but provided you really like it and it’s not going to cause your child embarrassment then it’s not that hard. Remember you have 6 weeks after the birth to register the baby and you don’t even need a name to register — can add it later — so plenty of time to “try out” the names you like.

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/01/2023 22:15

Go for Romilly nn Romy!

Eatentoomanyroses · 21/01/2023 21:21

I think I quite like Romilly from your list.

CliffsofMohair · 21/01/2023 21:17

Congratulations on your new little one. Claudia Romilly is lovely.

CharitySchmarity · 21/01/2023 21:14

I love Claudia and like Romilly, the others are not really my thing. Claudia Romilly would make a nice combination.

margegunderson · 21/01/2023 21:13

Wait till she's with you. Spend time with her. You'll know which is right for her.

Choconut · 21/01/2023 21:11

I love Claudia, Romilly is quite nice, the others I don't like at all. I can't imagine what people would make of a child called Hero no matter if it's from Shakespeare and/or Greek mythology, I mean if you're a celeb then maybe. Wendy is very dated and Morgan sounds very hard to me, not pretty at all.

If your surname works with it then I think Claudia Romilly could run very well.

LaLuz7 · 21/01/2023 21:04

I absolutely adore Hero and can’t understand why it’s not used more often BUT

uhmm maybe because it's cringeworthy as fuck? It's up there in the ridiculousness top with Legend, Heir, Squire...

MissedItByThisMuch · 21/01/2023 21:00

I absolutely adore Hero and can’t understand why it’s not used more often BUT if you used it as a first you would need to be prepared for the kind of ignorant comments upthread from people who don’t know it’s a name from Greek mythology/Shakespeare. It would be an amazing strong, fabulous middle though.

I love the name Romy so I would go for Romilly Hero and use that nickname, but I like all your other choices too. Excellent strong unfrilly names.

lonelymummy22 · 21/01/2023 21:00

No no I like all the names and wouldn't pick one I didn't love! I mean I feel like I'm leaning more towards the ones I know he wouldn't agree to

Claudia or Romilly are lovely.

Hero is a ridiculous name.

Morgan…. not keen, but it’s not as bad as Wendy. I know loads of women called Wendy, they’re all in their 60s and it’s not a classical old name yet.

tillyrainbow · 21/01/2023 20:55

Romilly js lovey!

icecreamplease · 21/01/2023 20:39

I really like Romilly 🙂

WuTangGran · 21/01/2023 20:39

Romiley’s near Stockport.

I love Estelle too!

I feel like nothing feels like "the one". Maybe I'll know when I see her?

Is it bad I want to give her a name I know the Father won't like Wink? As I imagine he will at some stage find out her name.

Yes. Do you want her name to be chosen out of spite? Is that what you want to remember every time you use her name?

It's one thing to not care what he thinks of the name, but an entirely different one to purposefully pick one we would hate.

I love Claudia and Romilly is nice too. Best of luck!

teezletangler · 21/01/2023 20:08

I have a Romilly. It's a bit of a mouthful and mine is almost universally known as Rom, which is don't actually like! If you want Milly as a NN you will need to enforce it from the get-go.

I like Claudia too, but she may end up as "Claud"! I don't know if that's any better.

ShesThunderstorms · 21/01/2023 20:00

I love Romilly. I like it as it is or shortened to Romy or Milly.

4thonthe4th · 21/01/2023 19:59

lonelymummy22 · 21/01/2023 17:18

Thank you everyone. I thought it would be nice being able to pick whatever I want but I'm finding it hard having no one to talk about it with.

Romilly I had on my list very early on and I like Milly as a nn.

I really like Romilly and I’ve been saying with some 3 syllable double barrel names I could think of and it sounds nice!

Anything else you want to discuss OP? I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant, won’t be finding out the sex. Happy to talk all things baby if you want to!

Hobbesmanc · 21/01/2023 19:57

I think there's a new Disney Peter Pan version pending so Wendy might be back on trend.

I love Claudia. Although she comes to a gruesome end doesn't she? What about Claudine.

Romilly is sweet. Love Romy. Morgan doesn't work for me. Hero is quirky. If you like Stella was about Estelle?

chouxpetitfilous · 21/01/2023 19:53

@lonelymummy22 Be ahead of the trend! Go for Wendy. It’s my fav.

lonelymummy22 · 21/01/2023 19:49

@eatdrinkandbemerry I love Maggie and Ruth! I actually really like Margaret which Maggie is a good nickname for xx
