How to spell..

Hi,
The name I want to call my daughter would be pronounced Rome-E…how do you think I should spell it to try to minimise it being pronounced wrong
Romee or Romie (other suggestions welcome)

p.s my username is not related, the name of the pram I got her is Roam 😂

Either English isn't your first language or you didn't do very well at school 😂

Romy is pronounced Roam-ee in English speaking countries.

Spelled Romy.

To get the 'Rommy' pronunciation in English, you need the two Ms, as in Tommy.

There are lots of anomalies in the English language. Climb/limb cough/rough/bough/ought rover/cover. Just because you say economy, doesn’t necessarily mean that Romy is pronounced Rom-ee!

This is all a bit silly. If I'd always thought the name Dave was pronounced Dav and then when I wanted to name my child Dave I had to change the spelling to Dayve because of my previous error, people would say that was absolutely bonkers.

Agree that maybe it's not the name for you. Romey is about the only tolerable deviation.

For pp: Romilly is not pronounced rome-illy because the y is separated from the vowel by a number of other letters so there's no action that requires it to be a long vowel,

I’ve only ever come across the name spelt Romy and pronounced Rome-ee. Never heard of Rom-ee.
If you do want Rome-ee, but not spelt Romy (not sure why!) then Romey would be your best bet, as I think most people would pronounce Romee as Rom-ee.

Romy is one of those names where both pronounciations are correct. Roam-y or Rom-y are both acceptable and it takes seconds to correct people and then they’ll remember. I’d stick with that spelling though as it looks worse if people think you’ve tried to do a unique spelling. Romee looks like it should be said Rom-y anyway. Plus some people will pronounce the “ee” as “ay” as in esmee which opens even more complication.

stick to Romy and just correct if needed

Romy- or I know a Romey which is lovely too. As much as I am normally against adding extra letters to names, that spelling is my favourite I think.

In German or Dutch, Romy is Rom-y whereas Rome would be Rom-eh

Op, if you introduce Romy as Rom-y then that's what people will call her.

Personally I much prefer Romy (rather than Roamy).

I just prefer it, I know majority of people are saying Romy is the way to spell how I want it pronounced but I think I just had it my head too long that was Rom-y so it’s not sitting right with me yet (I will give it chance) plus singer in the charts is Rom-y spelt Romy.
