I recently came across the name Twyla. I love how it sounds & it’s unusual without being too crazy. I definitely don’t know any Twyla’s. What’s other people’s thoughts on it? Will also take other name suggestions. Thanks.

And I thought the person who mentioned the 'talented Twyla Tharp' was doing a play on words for Taylor Swift 😳

Twyla makes me think of an owl for some reason.

Instant owl here too.

Poppy is lovely. Do that.

Yeah I'd avoid Twyla too.
Poppy is lovely and Luna is beautiful too.

TenoringBehind · 17/01/2023 13:16

I’d think you were a huge Schitt’s Creek fan.

I think it is the sort of name that would be really annoying to have as you’d forever be spelling it and explaining it to people.

Ruthietuthie · 17/01/2023 13:15

Twyla is a lovely name. Makes me think of Toni Morrison's short story Recitatif. In the US it is a more known name but definitely not "Southern redneck" as someone described it above.

Roseey · 17/01/2023 13:15

Stripper.

Poppy is nice.

I appreciate the honesty it’s fine I’ll cross it off my list lol since there’s brutal people in the room then what about Poppy?

It's a cutesy name. It depends whether you like those sorts of names.

You could go for Matilda and then Tilda for short? Has the same kind of vibe without being so out there?

purpledalmation · 17/01/2023 13:13

Poppy and Luna are both nice

HappierTimesAhead · 17/01/2023 13:11

Poppy is so lovely

She’s due in June so will be a summer baby. My middle name is rose & sisters middle name is Daisy. I’m struggling for first names so liked poppy just as a first name. I like nature, hippie, boho names.

Twyla sounds like it's said by someone with a speech impediment

watchfulwishes · 17/01/2023 12:36

Tilda is better.

Basmati rice.

steppemum · 17/01/2023 13:09

I love the name Poppy, and Daisy.
But dh wouldn't go for them.

Talia is really pretty too and means 'blossom' so goes with your flower theme.

Rose1111 · 17/01/2023 13:09

It didn’t look right to me but sounded nice. I’ve seen it spelt Twila as well I think that’s the original spelling but doesn’t look how it sounds that way. I’ll stick with poppy. Thanks for the honesty.

no, just no unless you forever want the child to seen as having an incorrectly spelt name rather like Conner because the parents didn't know the name is spelt Connor

eatdrinkandbemerry · 17/01/2023 13:03

Tyler with a speech sounds disorder 🤷‍♀️

Tilda is better.

Rice. I cook it a lot so that's the first thing that pops into my head.

Mispronounciation of 'Tyler'.

Not a good name.

ittakes2 · 17/01/2023 12:59

We have Tahlila or Tailia where I am from. Sorry but Twylia sounds like someone is having trouble with pronounciation.

ODFOx · 17/01/2023 12:56

Poppy is pretty, as is Heather, Hazel, Skye, Rosie, Summer, Juniper (June or Junie), Clover.
Twyla sounds like something from a fantasy novel. I can't put my finger on why the Tw sound doesn't seem right for a name; perhaps because I can't think of any 'pleasant' or happy words at all which start with Tw, although several which are neutral or negative.

ErinAndTonic · 17/01/2023 12:47

Makes me think Tyla, but with a lisp!

ShesFlirtyTurnedThirty · 17/01/2023 12:43

IaltagDhubh · 17/01/2023 12:08

An ingratiatingly cute lisp though.

My niece made a friend at preschool called Tyler which she pronounced Twyla at the time due to being 2. She’s still friends with him now and calls him Twyla when she’s winding him up.
