Thoughts on the name Twyla?

I recently came across the name Twyla. I love how it sounds & it’s unusual without being too crazy. I definitely don’t know any Twyla’s. What’s other people’s thoughts on it? Will also take other name suggestions. Thanks.

What about Briar, Aster, Delphine, Heather, Iris, Ivy, Jessamine, Lillian, Rosanna, Viola or Willow?

I’ve seen all those names on Google unfortunately don’t like any of them. I like Rosie but my middle name is rose.

Just here for the Hogfather references. GNU Sir Pterry.

Carryonmarion · 17/01/2023 14:37

Poppy is a million times nicer

Yep! You’re absolutely right. Thankfully not popular where I live but do know a dog called poppy although same with Lola & Bella. I think with most names people can associate it with something somewhat negative. I have looked at every other flower name don’t really see any I like apart from blossom but I know my partner would think I’m crazy & surname sounds similar so it wouldn’t sound right.

Sounds like the sort of nonsense phonetic name you hear on Love Island

OrlandointheWilderness · 17/01/2023 14:33

Terry Prachett. Nice to see lots of fans!

jollygoose · 17/01/2023 14:33

AlwaysBelieveInYourSoul · 17/01/2023 14:31

I've heard of Twyla Tharp and knew she was something artsy but I couldn't have told you who she was

However the little Poppys I've met have all been super sweethearts. So don't let me be a negative.

Although il just throw Mr Poppy from Nativity in there too

She's one of my favourite characters. So I think it's a pretty name

Not that it's any of my business. But Poppy isn't a lovely flower name. It's over used. It's often given to pets. It's girly and above all looks like Poopy. Not a look.

I think there's some much lovelier flower named. Flora , Daphne, primrose. Marigold. Marguerite. Rosemary.

Good luck x.

HadEnoughOfBears · 17/01/2023 14:20

Poppy is a lovely name

Bunce1 · 17/01/2023 14:18

Poppy is a darling name.

Rose1111 · 17/01/2023 14:15

I know it’s my child & can name her whichever name I choose but didn’t want her getting bullied & I wondered what other people associate the name with as I hadn’t heard it before. I thought it sounded like twinkling stars & was something really pretty.

You'll need to make sure she doesn't step on the pavement cracks to get the "tear you to bits bears" in trouble

Absolutely! Watch out for rogue boars too!

hiredandsqueak · 17/01/2023 14:13

It sounds like an own brand chocolate bar, a fake Twix, it's a no from me.

goodmorningsunny · 17/01/2023 14:12

Love it and love Schitts creek. For the record, I posted on mumsnet asking about the name I was thinking about for my daughter and got a lot of negative feedback. I named her it anyway and I absolutely love it :)

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 17/01/2023 14:10

tacky and cheap. Feel the same about names like Chardonnay

caringcarer · 17/01/2023 13:56

Poppy is much nicer.

Eastereggsboxedupready · 17/01/2023 13:45

Sounds like a new chocolate bar...

Poppy it is! Thankfully my partner likes the name poppy so don’t want to suggest other names to him without being sure because he might be swayed away from poppy. Originally liked Arabella but she’ll get called Bella & don’t like Bella. I considered Freya & Everly too but poppy just steals the show I think. My first girl it has to be sweet & girly.

Poppy is a beautiful name! I had a boy but if id had a girl she would have been a Poppy.

Berlinlover · 17/01/2023 13:41

Awful.

It sounds like it's being said by someone with a speech impediment.
