Elliot or Felix

I’m driving myself a bit mad - keep thinking I’ve chosen a name then going back to the drawing board. So I’m determined this is my final post and then I’ll go and live my life!

Here goes: Elliot or Felix (surname Marshall).

Worried about nicknames and keen to avoid anything mega posh, which in my mind would be like Tristan or Hugo (or maybe Sebastian).

Be kind :)

Elliot is what I would name a boy if I had a baby. LOVE the name so much. (I think because of E.TGrin)

Thank you! You wouldn’t worry re him being called Elli? Think we’d use Els x

The only thing about Felix is that it is enduring a bit of a surge. And like all names that become 'of an era' it is vulnerable to becoming a lazy shorthand to denote age or attribute. I've got one of these names but fortunately Karen took the hit for us all. Elliot is a steady away name, similar in popularity over the years.

Elliot is okay, Felix is lovely and there would be no confusion over it’s spelling.

I much prefer Elliot. Felix is a good name too, there's plenty around now so I don't think Felix the Cat will be relevant by the time he goes to school. You can't go wrong with either - despite the weird issues posters drag to this board 🙄.

Haha! Thanks, I did chuckle at the drug addict one ;)

Felix

qpmz · 16/01/2023 14:15

I prefer Felix. Elliott sounds a bit wet.

Thesonglastslonger · 16/01/2023 13:40

Elliot, if you’re in a country that sells felix cat food.

Twizbe · 16/01/2023 13:32

In that case look at him what works best? Try calling him each name for a day and see how it feels.

It could be that neither are right and another name suggests itself.

picnicshicnic · 16/01/2023 13:27

Elliot, hands down. Lovely name.

I know one older gentleman named Felix. It suits him.

Other than that there is a glut of about 6 of them in my daughters preschool and everytime I hear it I just think it's a cats name.

BasiliskStare · 16/01/2023 13:25

Felix hands down for me

JadeTC · 16/01/2023 13:25

Generally I'd say if you're down to 2 wait until baby is here. One might just fit him better.

That said I know 5 Felix born last year!

He arrived 3 weeks ago :(

Sorry that's not helpful

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 16/01/2023 13:17

MUCH prefer Elliot

YukoandHiro · 16/01/2023 13:17

Prefer E and F a better flow with the surname

EmmaGrundyForPM · 16/01/2023 13:13

I've got a friend with two boys named Elliot and Felix (plus a daughter, Charlotte). Both lovely names.

Smilesarecontagious · 16/01/2023 13:12

Oh OK all I can say is go with your gut try not to feel pressured it's such a personal choice and don't really let silly comments from strangers put you off ie cat etc

When I had my girl I went and registered her not 100% then couldn't call her by that name

I ended going back to register office and changed her name I was so distraught luckily it was very straight forward and was given a new birth certificate ( this had to be done by the time she was six months)

Go with you heart and don't let others influence you

All the best xx

Viviennemary · 16/01/2023 13:12

I'm in the same boat driving myself crazy with baby names!! I too am having a boy I'm due in a few weeks, thinking and thinking names so I feel your pain!!
Boys names are pretty tricky for some reason!!
I personally prefer Felix, go with your gut hopefully you may be clearer when you see him x ( at least that's what I'm telling myself!!)
Good luck xx

Felix. I know an adult Felix, it is such a nice name. Elliot sounds very American to me.

They're both good, but I prefer Felix, which is a little bit different without being odd. Felix suggests a very musical or artistic child.

Our electrician is called Felix Smile
