Elliot or Felix

I’m driving myself a bit mad - keep thinking I’ve chosen a name then going back to the drawing board. So I’m determined this is my final post and then I’ll go and live my life!

Here goes: Elliot or Felix (surname Marshall).

Worried about nicknames and keen to avoid anything mega posh, which in my mind would be like Tristan or Hugo (or maybe Sebastian).

Be kind :)

I have a child called Elliot and a cat called felix so you know my favourite. DS of course

Mallowmarshmallow · 16/01/2023 21:15

@Wombat222 no horrible nicknames at all. He's 9. I'm fairly sure most of his friends still call him Elliot. I'm guessing it might get shortened at secondary school, although he prefers the full name so perhaps not...

Blueberry40 · 16/01/2023 21:09

Definitely prefer Felix, it’s a lovely name. Elliott is okay but a little boring.

pairofrollerskates · 16/01/2023 19:56

Felix

ThomasinaLivesHere · 16/01/2023 19:52

Elliot - I can’t get away from the cat connection with Felix

Gosh that’s random!

Yeah probably not the norm 😂, Emma seems to be the same, round me. Shoplifters and addicts. It’s strange. I went to school with a Felix though and no one ever made a cat comment. No one has ever said smelling to an Elliot as far as I’m aware, the only nn I’ve heard for them are El and one is Elmo.

cravingtoblerone · 16/01/2023 18:10

I think they both work. If pushed I'd say Elliot has the slight edge on Felix.

Smelliot? Confused

You're overthinking

Mumsnetters have worried me!

@Wombat222 I have an Elliot and I still love the name.

He's never been called Eli, I see that as a totally different name, and I think because the E sound is different, Elliot doesn't naturally lean itself to it.

We call him El/Els at home often but at school he's firmly an Elliot.

Thank you! How old is he? Does he get Smelliot or anything? I’ve got myself overly worried about this but think I might just be hormonal and losing it a bit!

I don't think I know any Elliots (or Elliotts) but Felix really feels like it's having a rapid ascent up the charts.

Purpletopaz42 · 16/01/2023 16:15

I really like Felix, it's a lovely name and not as common as Elliot

Beeswood · 16/01/2023 16:10

I really like Elliot, great name.

The cat food connection puts me off Felix.

Rauha · 16/01/2023 16:09

Elliot

Purplemagnolias · 16/01/2023 16:09

Felix is cat food and a cartoon cat 🐈

Aria20 · 16/01/2023 16:05

I prefer Max to either of those or Ellis. Not keen on Elliott and Felix reminds me of a cat it is quite a strong cat association much like Rex would be for a dog!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 16/01/2023 15:34

Elliot

Wrongsideofpennines · 16/01/2023 15:33

Elliott. Felix is a cat food. And I think borders on the very posh sounding names you don't like.

But try calling him one for a few days and see how it feels.

AnotherSpare · 16/01/2023 15:21

I don't think either of them would be shortened to anything if you're worried about nicknames.

I prefer Elliot so that would be my choice. Though Elliot Felix Marshall sounds great!
Use both?

Notjusta · 16/01/2023 15:18

I have a boy with one of these names, but I like both! No help there sorry!

Purplemagnolias · 16/01/2023 15:16

Definitely Elliot!

Felix is a well known cat food 🐈 in the UK

jackstini · 16/01/2023 15:11

And his nn is El

jackstini · 16/01/2023 15:10

Much prefer Elliot - and I know a lovely one, age 15

I can't get past the cat food association of Felix

MajorCarolDanvers · 16/01/2023 15:02

Elliot

Felix is a cat's name
