Hi, i am extremely early pregnant only six weeks but I am already thinking of names! What do people think of Isla? Middle name Grace. Or if anyone else has any other middle name suggestions? xx

Isla is way too popular and overused while Iona is less common and more beautiful.
I know of one 40+ Iona and Iona Grace is a classic combination.

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 18/01/2023 03:04

Forgot to say my niece is Isla Elizabeth ( after my mother)

Dontsayfuckorbugger · 18/01/2023 03:01

Isla is lovely. My 11 yr old niece is called Isla and its a beautiful name. Yes it's more common now but who cares. Its still quite classic. Her only problem is some people pronouncing it iz-laaa but not a major issue. Go for it. If you love a name then use it and don't tell people because they will have too much of an opinion and put you off or upset you.

Aiyla, is that pronounced the same? Not seen it spelt like that before?
Another one for Juliet ❤️❤️
I will add it to my short list as a girl first name then, will need to think of a middle name xx my son has a Juliet in his class and I've always thought it was pretty but had forgotten about it until it was suggested on this thread x

Yes, it's pronounced the same.

LordSugarTits · 17/01/2023 22:19

As long as your surname isn't Mann or White.

The two Juliets I know are adults and both get called Jet

DS (12) is friends with an Isla Grace an Isla Rose, and an Aiyla Rose.
Juliet is beautiful.

Juliet seems much more popular than Isla on here. I do love Juliet tbh xx

@StopFeckingFaffing no, the baby will have a very regular ordinary surname. Xx

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 17/01/2023 19:47

Isla Grace is very much this generation’s Emma Louise. Juliet is lovely.

StopFeckingFaffing · 17/01/2023 18:29

Both lovely names but it is the current equivalent to Sarah Louise from the 1970s so personally I wouldn't use that combination unless perhaps you have a very unusual surname

Jomummy1013 · 17/01/2023 18:22

Thank you all. I am thinking Isla Juliet now. I love Juliet but I don't like Jules/Jools really, I know all names get shortened, but that is a shortened version I am not keen on xx

Both names are popular but beautiful.

DuchessOfSausage · 17/01/2023 13:21

I know quite a few, including one from a French-speaking family. It's just closely associated with the 1960s, so seems dated.

DuchessOfSausage · 17/01/2023 12:39

@DurdleSnore , Juliette will get called Julie a lot.

I actually was thinking Julie is very pretty the other day, I'm of an age when I went to school with many so I never really gave it much thought...I heard it said with a French accent and it sounded great

Randomuser9876 · 17/01/2023 11:52

I was thinking of Isla for DD2 as love the name but then everyone I knew seemed to be calling their daughters that and it felt too much.

There are HEAPS round here.

That said DD1 has a popular name and still I love it (it's a family name) so you can't always let that bother you!

DurdleSnore · 17/01/2023 11:49

I like Isla but much prefer Juliet/Juliette

KirstenBlest · 16/01/2023 10:55

The name Isla is very popular.
darkgreener gives the popularity in England & Wales.
It's been the #3 most popular name for about 10 years.
Grace is a very popular middle name, so if you have a common surname, the name will be quite likely to be duplicated.

Juliet is nice but people say it as Jool-i-et, Julie-ETTE, and Jool-yet, and it will be shortened to Jules/Jools.

diamondlil3 · 16/01/2023 02:13

Isla is a lovely name, ive got a 45 year old Lisa who loves her name and its just the same letters just in a different order, go for it!

NotABeliever · 15/01/2023 23:32

I don't think Isla is that common. There are none in my DD's year and i only know of one. Definitely not a reason not to use the name imo.
Juliet is also beautiful

TheaBrandt · 15/01/2023 23:22

Rare for 40 somethings lots in the teen / child age bracket

CornishGem1975 · 15/01/2023 23:11

Lovely name. I've actually ever known one.

TheaBrandt · 15/01/2023 23:07

Juliet much fresher. Isla Grace very generic for this age group like choosing Sarah Jane in the 70s.

Jomummy1013 · 15/01/2023 22:25

Thank you so much all for your thoughts and input. I did not realise how popular Isla is, and definitely not Isla Grace! And now I have food for thought with Juliet too, which I love. xxx
