Thoughts on the name Gwendolen please. Nickname likely 'Gwen'.

It's time this name made a comeback. Go for it!

HelloViroids · 14/01/2023 22:38

I also thought Mary Lacey

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 14/01/2023 22:35

Its a road name near me!

Twoinapod · 14/01/2023 22:20

I love it although prefer Gwendoline emphasis on the Gwen.
Gwen is also on my list, simple, classy. Plus spider Gwen is now a thing and what kid doesn’t want to be a superhero

PaulRobinsonsSeventhWife · 14/01/2023 22:16

What about Gwenllian?

ofwarren · 14/01/2023 22:13

I really like it

Kanaloa · 14/01/2023 22:12

I like it. Gwendoline Mary was a bit of a madam but not a murderer or anything, so not a horrible association. Plus I think many people now would think of the actress from Game of Thrones. I like Gwen too.

AnOldCynic · 14/01/2023 22:07

Gwen is lovely.

mouse70 · 14/01/2023 21:42

Gwendoline /Gwen/Gwennie all OK . I knew an american teacher, in UK school, who insited on using a pupils full name (despite being known as Gwen)but said GwendA- Line emphasis on the line. Drove Gwen mad

NothingButSpace · 14/01/2023 21:32

I generally dislike granny names eg Ivy, Violet, Elsie, Mabel but I don’t mind Gwendoline (only spelling I know.)

Outfor150 · 14/01/2023 21:29

It’s definitely Gwendolen. That’s the correct spelling. I like it, but it’s commonly mispronounced - like other Welsh names can be.

walkinthewoodstoday · 14/01/2023 20:43

@Lilacbluecloud ok I missed that you are in wales. If you are not, then I think it stands out a bit. I don't dislike it!

Nimbostratus100 · 14/01/2023 20:28

I love it! But I would spell it Gwenolyn, and have the nickname Lyn

Isn’t this a different name?

I like it much better though

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/01/2023 20:36

It’s Gwendoline (or Gwendolyn)

It’s OK, I like Gwen a lot

Marmite27 · 14/01/2023 20:33

I know a child with the middle name Gwendolyn after a Welsh aunt and a Gwendolen who goes by Lennie. I don’t know the providence.

Both are under 8.

nbee84 · 14/01/2023 20:31

What about Gwennan?

UnlikelyStar · 14/01/2023 20:28

I really like it!

Hobbesmanc · 14/01/2023 20:27

Love it. Gwen and Gwennie are gorgeous names

pippabg · 14/01/2023 20:26

I love Gwendolen! Not as sure about Gwen.

CastleTower · 14/01/2023 19:56

I would just use Gwen as the full name.

Could do - just worry it sounds a bit abrupt with our surname.

It's a bit different. Is she going to be sent to private school? If not, I'd avoid.

Odd, just sounds like a lovely welsh name to me, doesn't sound posh at all - I feel like names like Amelia, Felicity, Charlotte etc. are all more 'private school'

I think I’d spell it Gwendolyn. I know a little girl called Gwen, a great nain called Gwennie and a nain called Gwenda so I think it suits all ages.
