Emmie - just Emmie - is it usable?

Now we thought it wouldn’t be an issue at all because Ellie was popular for so long and they aren‘t really that different.

But the feedback we’ve been getting isn’t very positive. Do you think just Emmie is fine? I personally find it more mature sounding than Ellie but maybe that’s just me.

Emmy or Emmie and why?

Do you think there’s a hidden popularity because many Emmas and Emilys go by Emmie? I personally have never encountered one and the Emmas etc we know go by their full names or sometimes by Em.

As an Emma nn Emmie, I like Emmie but I’m glad I have the Emma to fall back on when I want to appear professional. I’d hate to have to put Emmie on my CV.

She will spend her life being asked “what’s your full name?” and having to say “no, that’s it”. I have a friend whose sister is CC. Just that. Not Sisi or Cici but CC. And she spends her life getting forms returned (“full name, not initials”). It’s a pain. Use Emma, Emily, Emmeline - but give her the option as an adult.

I know of 2 Emmie’s. (they are American children I know with the name)

But Emme in German (for example) is not pronounced 'emmie/emmy'. It sounds like Emma in English.

In French Emme would be prounced 'Em'

I wouldn't use it myself because I happen to love Emily, but I don't think there's anything wrong with it in theory. I think I'd go for the spelling Emmy - it looks more complete to me somehow, less like a short form of another name, and I have a feeling it is sometimes used as an independent name somewhere in the world, maybe in Scandinavia.

The UK isn't the only nation in the world, so yes it is established. It's pronounced like Emmie, but not so (in my opinion) wishy washy looking.

I'd say perfectly usable but a bit nothingy. One of the longer versions mentioned, or Emme which is an established name and is more 'complete' looking, have more substance.

Emme is not at all established in the UK, and people would often think it was Em - which would just add to the confusion

Met a little girl called Emmie on holiday once. She was super cute. Don’t know if that was her full name, though.

I know a few little Emmies - all short for Emmeline or Emma (I think)

It’s too cutsy as a full name, but fine as a nn. Not unusual though. Maybe Emerald so she has a more unusual option?

For me, it's just a nickname. Emmy sounds really twee and saccharine. Emmie! Emmie!

Give the girl a proper name and if you absolutely must shorten it to Emmy when she's a child then you can but at least she can choose something more solid when she's older.

Emma, Emmanuelle, Emmeline all perfectly nice names for a woman or a girl.

It depends how it sounds in the accent of the area you live in really.
It doesn't sound great in where I am in Scotland. Eh-may

We have an Emilia always known as Emi. I like it and don’t think it’s twee and she’s nearly a teenager.

I wonder if it's the same one? Maybe they -ie ending ups the twee ante (like Hollie, Poppie and Teddie)
