What do you think..? For a boy!

I mainly know this name from a Chalet School book - I randomly mentioned it when discussing names for the new baby with DH (I could do this all day long, he hates it , the poor thing), and he very unexpectedly liked it.

Sounds like Chester (which is an old man name). Sorry, no

RambamThankyouMam · 10/01/2023 22:48

Court Jester / kestrel / molester.

Awful name.

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/01/2023 22:40

🤦‍♂️

Insomnia23 · 10/01/2023 22:31

Sounds made up

stressedlandlord · 10/01/2023 22:10

I like it. My neighbour is called Kester. He is a fabulously eccentric elderly man, who is building his own house, using tools he has made himself. He is really super

Laquila · 10/01/2023 22:08

@PortiasBiscuit I hate to tell you this but literally all names are made up

Hobbesmanc · 10/01/2023 22:05

That's a new name for me and I really like it. Love Christopher anyway and this version is fresh and interesting.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 10/01/2023 20:04

I like it a lot. I've only ever met one, not Scottish but Northumbrian.

SirVixofVixHall · 10/01/2023 19:53

Whataretheodds · 10/01/2023 14:50

It's a Scottish version of Christopher.

I like it.

I know one, a young adult. He has a Scottish parent.
It is a really nice name I think.

UsingChangeofName · 10/01/2023 19:52

I know of one and she is a woman, but it seems it is usually (well, when used) a man's name.
I quite like it - easy to pronounce when you see it written somewhere and easy to spell - which are always plus points with names.
Certainly not going to be one of many in the class. Smile

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/01/2023 19:21

I wanted dc3 to be Kit (full name Christopher) after a chao I used to work with/for, but DH vetoed. It 8s quite popular now

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 10/01/2023 19:17

I don't like it, but I love Kit.

Whataretheodds · 10/01/2023 19:11

PortiasBiscuit · 10/01/2023 18:04

There are literally thousands of good boy’s names, why are you making one up.
One day this will be a man who will need a CV and a job. Give him a sensible bloody name!

I work with a Kester who is managing to get promoted just fine.

It's not a made-up name any more than Margaret is a made-up name.

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/01/2023 19:07

There are no sounds in Kester that would make the Home Alone sound. That would need a ei, an ee or an ey?

20viona · 10/01/2023 19:05

Awful

SpikeGilesSandwich · 10/01/2023 19:00

Wasn't the nice therapist from My Mad Fat Diary named Kester? I like it!

onyttig · 10/01/2023 18:51

But Kester doesn’t even sound vaguely like keister (bum). Keh-stur, key-stur.

I like it. It made me think of a different book. The main character in Piers Torday’s The Last Wild is called Kester.

Bard6817 · 10/01/2023 18:51

PacificallyRequested · 10/01/2023 18:46

Yup. As in "I'm gonna give you to the count of ten, to get your ugly, yella, no-good keester off my property, before I pump your guts full of lead!"

It's a no from me.

Home alone?

Otterleaf · 10/01/2023 18:49

New to me, I like it.

PacificallyRequested · 10/01/2023 18:46

Bard6817 · 10/01/2023 17:47

How do you pronounce it?

Isnt Kester (pronounced keester) slang for butt?

Yup. As in "I'm gonna give you to the count of ten, to get your ugly, yella, no-good keester off my property, before I pump your guts full of lead!"

It's a no from me.

Phineyj · 10/01/2023 18:44

I like it. And I usually hate all name ideas on here!

wizzler · 10/01/2023 18:42

Love it. As a pp says, Kester Woodseeves is in Precious Bane and I've had a soft spot for the name Kester ever since I read it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/01/2023 18:38

Love it

IhearyouClemFandango · 10/01/2023 18:37

No, it's a flat e. Imagine rhyming with bester or Hester

Twoinapod · 10/01/2023 18:31

I went to school with a Kester. Not Scottish, not posh. Never had any issues with it all through school. I always thought it was quite nice.

@Bard6817 no it’s pronounced how it looks short ‘es’ sound. Doesn’t sound like Keester
