What do you think..? For a boy!

I mainly know this name from a Chalet School book - I randomly mentioned it when discussing names for the new baby with DH (I could do this all day long, he hates it , the poor thing), and he very unexpectedly liked it.

Kester doesn't sound like a real name, more a washing powder.

CultureAlienationBoredomandDespair · 19/07/2023 12:35

I’m in the final weeks of pregnancy and possibly at the stage of going a bit mad over trying to find a name we both like.

It’s a shame you didn’t use it @CatLoaf but I’m sure you picked a lovely name.

Kester has pricked my ears though and I think I like it. I’m
nor sure if we’d be able to get away with it though as I like Kit for a nickname but our surname is Fox. Would that be too silly?

Alternatively my DH’s name is Christopher (I wouldn’t use it though), could we use Sonny or would that be a stretch?

@17caterpillars1mouse Not Kester I'm afraid 😔 After all these great responses too!

@CatLoaf what did you choose in the end?

Jins · 20/06/2023 09:17

It was my first choice of name for DS1 until we tried saying it out loud with our surname. I still love it. Was the name of one of DS2s friends.

Although I vaguely remember it from Chalet School I picked it up from Wheel of Fortune by Susan Howatch.

Love it. As a pp says, Kester Woodseeves is in Precious Bane and I've had a soft spot for the name Kester ever since I read it.

Oh me too! Kester Woodseeves ❤

Insomnia23 · 20/06/2023 09:05

Too close to Casper 👻 for my liking

Elspethelf · 20/06/2023 05:26

I love it!

My husband unexpectedly liked an uncommon name favorite of mine and I’m so glad we went with it

BeverlyBrook · 19/06/2023 22:14

Ooh an unusual and super name!

MsJuniper · 19/06/2023 22:08

Kester is my dream name if I had had another DS. Love it. Kes for short.

Goldensoon · 19/06/2023 22:03

Kester is the therapist in my mad fat diary. Like it a lot.

CC4712 · 19/06/2023 22:01

First thought was fester and molester! 😬

Daisybuttercup12345 · 19/06/2023 21:55

Prefer Kevin!!
Kelston?

CatLoaf · 24/01/2023 17:58

Glad I'm drawing t he Chalet School fans in! And Kester is now firmly on the list - now got to find out if it's actually a boy 🙈

Saw thread title, thought ‘Chalet School’! Thank you - I’m particularly fond of the ‘Island’ era. And always thought Madge’s Kevin was very short changed.

Wonderful, solid, proper old name.

You absolutely must use it!

limerentidiot · 24/01/2023 04:27

Love it, also a CS fan.

Blobbies · 24/01/2023 04:17

Nice name

Trez1510 · 24/01/2023 03:27

It's definitely a Scottish name.

In my life (I'm ancient) I've encountered four Kesters.

One great uncle.
One boy in my year at school.
One boy in my friend's school but in the year above.
One brother of a colleague - he was neither of the two I knew at school - I checked!

All born in Scotland to Scottish parents.

Topseyt123 · 24/01/2023 03:26

No from me. Either it sounds like you are naming a clown or I'd be thinking of Uncle Fester from the Addams Family because it rhymes with that.

Calliell · 24/01/2023 03:07

I know a Danish Kester. It does get shorted to Kes or Kez.

WaitingForSummertime · 23/01/2023 15:37

A friend has a baby Kester. They are Scottish/Scottish heritage. I think it's about to become popular.

AuntieStella · 23/01/2023 15:25

I think it's lovely

Unusual in the right sort of ways. And yes definitely a real name!

CharitySchmarity · 23/01/2023 15:23

I like it, although I always thought it was Cornish!

whoami24601 · 21/01/2023 11:00

This is so weird. I have never ever heard of the name Kester. Picked a random book off my tbr pile this morning and the main character has that name. Then pick up my phone, open Mumsnet and this is almost the first thread on active. What a strange coincidence (and totally unhelpful for you OP sorry but I had to share 🤣)

thegreylady · 21/01/2023 10:52

Another CS/Abbey Girls fan. I have always loved Kester as a name . I am sure Elfrida Vipont had a Kester in one of her books too.
