Hi, I’ve posted before to try to get to a final decision but I’m still not managing - I get awful baby name anxiety and took months to name my last son. I need to decide between:

Elliot Max William Marshall (concern is the lack of gd nickname for Elliot and maybe it being a bit American?)

Max Elliot William Marshall (several people have said Max Marshall is too grr and in your face due to alliteration).

Have played with Felix, Jack, Arthur too but just not sure - Arthur doesn’t go too well with my other son.

Please be kind but votes welcome, aiming to decide tomorrow.

@barca123 Hes only a toddler so I can’t be sure lol. But he likes to tell it to everyone and we’ve had nothing but compliments on his name 😊
Whats making you so unsure? 😊

Think I’m worrying it’s too macho…

Is your Max M happy with his name? I keep panicking

@Wombat222 Did you manage to decide yet OP?
I spoke to you on a previous thread - I also have a Max M 😊 So funny seeing that your other option is Elliot - that was our other option too 🤣🤣

You can’t go wrong with either in my opinion 😊

Thanks! We’ve registered to take the pressure off but I’ve lost the plot I think - I have ick with everything because I’ve overthought so much!

Both are lovely names
I would personally go for Elliot I think its a lovely name and goes well with your middle and last name.
The Elliots I know are mostly Elliot, or occasionally El as teens with one who goes by Eli and one Elmo but that was mostly because he was a very ticklish giggly baby.

geminiflanagan · 12/02/2023 11:33

We would have gone for Elliot if dd had been a boy, with a planned nickname of Eli (pronounced Eee Lie, for clarity!)

"Why does everyone on MN insist on nicknames? Just stick to his proper name"

What's wrong with nicknames ? It's the equivalent of a verbal hug. I use a plethora of nicknames with my boys, although one of them has a name that's not really nicknameable.

I much prefer the custom of using nicknames for an actual name to the custom of putting nicknames on the birth certificate.

To each their own I guess.

I agree with you. Nicknames are nicknames, names should be proper.

Elliot

Max Marshall sounds like a huge marshall. Not a great idea imo.

I guess that’s the case with any surname with Max

Congratulations!

I prefer Elliot for the first name :)

Both are great! Fwiw I think the alliteration is fine….and by the way, don’t stress! It took me all of 5 weeks and 6 days (to the day of the registration appt) to name DS last year.

Thanks! Did you end up happy with your decision? I’m worried I’ll be questioning it for years to come!

Elliot Maxim Marshall imo.

Well... what did you go for in the end? Grin

Mushroo · 13/01/2023 13:15

Another vote for Max Marshall. The alliteration is great and means it’s a memorable name. Will be memorable in group job interviews!

Elliott is ok but for some reason reminds me of omelette.

Elliot, Max is nice but a bit bland and very popular. I know an Elliot and we call him Ellie.

This is my worry, not a fan!

Max Marshall is very cool! That’s my favourite.

DashingWhiteSergeant · 09/01/2023 18:38

Both are lovely but I like the first choice slightly better.

laravix · 09/01/2023 10:40

Congratulations! I like Max or Jack!

Billslills · 09/01/2023 10:26

Love Max Marshall 👊🏼

@Wombat222 my DH preferred a name and it is the name we've gone with partly because at the time I felt we might as well pick a name one of us felt really confident about. I don't think he could say why, just likes the sound. It sounds slightly like Elliot is in the lead but you can't quite settle on it. I went round in circles a lot but over time felt we just kept coming back to the same name, maybe like it chose DS rather than us choosing it. I did like other names and DH would have let me choose but I was just never certain.

Thank you, that’s how I feel - nothing seems right!
