Anyone else been surprised at what people in their lives have called their children?

In the same way that nobody is ever just called Nevaeh, but "Nevaeh - it's heaven spelled backwards!!"

we were talking about this name at the weekend, a girl in my grandson’s class is called Nevaeh and I said it’s a made u name, he said it’s heaven spelt backwards, so I said but that’s like taking any word, spelling it backwards and using it as a name. He proceeded to come up with such names - the best was “Wobniar”.
My daughter, his Mum, is a Midwife and she says that there is another Nevaeh born on 75% of shifts and each of these parents says “it’s so unique”.

Yes, he's now legally known as Bedspread - and has been rumoured to be considering proposing marriage to Holly Valance.

I bet it is Blanket. That was the name of someone either in a real history book or a work of fiction. It is on the tip of my tongue (it might even have been the Diary of Adrian Mole!).

I used to work at a private school and we had a couple of footballers children. They always had the most out there names. I’ve never forgotten Siblings called Austin & Texas that had American state as their surname

Oh yes. We have two DNs with names that are so far out there as to be laugh out loud. They’re just like “wtaf”? names and their parents are fairly normal individuals, one of them is a teacher so should know better but there you go.

I know someone who is a teacher and her 2 DDs have very pretty, but unusual names. It's probably because they come into contact with so many children that it is difficult not to associate a name with someone else, such as "Nope, I know a £%#& in class 7 and they are a real pain!"

I have a teddy, not an Edward either, but she’s named after a family member. All my kids are, and there are a few!

I once bumped into an ex sister in law of my sister in law, she introduced me to her kid, who I shall rename alexis, for her own bloody good, like this “and this is Alexis (insert unspeakable made up name) A L E X I S…” spelled it out like it was one sentence, name followed by spelling, I just replied ‘that’s gonna get old quick…’ and left.

I STILL, decades after the fact, marvel that Frank Zappa (musician and artist...you should SEE his art! Very interesting!) named two of his children "Moon Unit" (girl) and "Dweezle" (boy). And that the founder of the Lear Jet Corporation named his only daughter "Shanda." Can you imagine the jokes about "swinging from the Shanda Lear" that she had to put up with?

LOL, that said, my Elder Spawn, now 41 years old, STILL tells people, when in my company, "My name is Dammit, Drew, right mom?"

Did we actually establish that it was Cape, or is it yet tbc? I'd been hoping for Medallion. I really hope it wasn't anything to do with those studded leather dog collars that pervs characters wear.

I suppose it could have been 'Ring' as in the old Elvis song - but I always thought that either Elvis must have had a gigantically humungous ring (fingers like marrows) or otherwise his lover had a teeny-weeny little humming bird-sized neck. Nowhere in the lyrics does it ever suggest that the ring would be on a chain around her neck!

Yes one of the children in the family has a ridiculous name, hes named after an item of clothing. I feel sorry for him as all the other kids in the family have normal names even his brother. When I've mentioned his name in passing to people always ask me to repeat the name.

Teddy always surprises me, when not a nickname for Edward, but they’re everywhere, for baby boys and dogs alike.

I knew a mum at a playgroup with a Rupert and a Teddy. I often wondered what she would choose if she had a third, Paddington, perhaps, or Yogi?

Cosima who’s surname is Pratt, Paul whose surname is Hiscock
and Robin whose surname is Banks.
